Crew wanted Grenada to St Martin

I own a 47 foot Leopard Catamaran in Grenada and am looking for crew to assist me moving the boat up to St Martin approximately the second week of November. Crew should have some sailing experience, common sense and be able to stand watch at night.

Re: Crew wanted Grenada to St Martin

Hey! I'm right now located in Gibraltar to finish my stcw 95 course, which is done by the 5th of November.

I start of by saying that my sailing experience isn't the best nor worst! I have done few days of sailing in Australia, where I mostly helped out with cooking, cleaning.
But I do have more in my brain than just that. I gladly help you out with duties on board . I can contribute with stories as well.
I'm quick learner, great listener !

My longterm goal is to get involved with the yacht business (therefore stcw) , and i belive i have a better chance of day work (which could lead into permanent) on the other side of the ocean.
Since the season for yachts are about to "end" in Europe.

I gladly send you my resume, or happy to have a talk through Skype or something similar. To prove I could be a helpful comrade on board.

Short about me:
I'm Martin, 25 years old. Healthy and fit.
Grew up in Sweden, traveled almost in every continent. Bit of a adrenaline junkie like crazy sports, cliff jumping, scuba, snowboard etc.

Previous work: valve specialist, workshop manager. Duties such as. Refit ,customize, pressure test, installing valves.

I'm easy going, and very helpful as in relation to work or social .

Re: Crew wanted Grenada to St Martin

The winter sailing season is just ready to begin here in the Caribbean. I pretty much just need someone to help with the overnight watches. How would you get to Grenada and what are your thoughts once you arrive?

Re: Crew wanted Grenada to St Martin

I did that run as crew in a 38' cat two years ago and had a great sail. I'd be up for doing it again. How much time are expecting to take? Is it island hopping and day trips ashore, or a non-stop slog?

I did all of the islands on the way down and they would be into the wind and against the current so planning on a straight shot. It should be a pretty fast beam reach so do-able in just about three days if the wind is its typical 15-20 knots out of the east.

Re: Crew wanted Grenada to St Martin

I am an easy going non-smoking racer with 30 years of experience on all types of boats. I presently race Laser, Stiletto 23 and Hawkfarm 28.

My experience includes many major regattas such as CORK (8x in Laser & Offshore fleets), Chester Race Week (4x all offshore) and the Lake Ontario 300-doublehanded in 2011. Ocean experience includes the 2002 Marblehead (Boston-Halifax 300 nm) and 2007 Newport to Bermuda (720 nm). I have also recently (Aug 2015) completed the delivery of a Beneteau 523 from Honolulu to San Francisco (2100 nm) with a crew of four. The owner would be pleased to provide you with a verbal reference and I'm happy to provide his contact info offline.

I spent 2000 hours as a military air navigator and am fully comfortable with navigation, weather and electronics. I also have sea survival training.
I am flexible for an anticipated 3 day trip and am very comfortable with midnight watches.

My motivation for such a trip is that I am about a month away from deciding between an Amel Sharki and a Wildcat 350 as my liveaboard cruiser for the next five years and I feel assisting you will help me to make this all-important decision.

Finally I am curious to know your intended departure date and itinerary.

cheers
Dave

Re: Crew wanted Grenada to St Martin

Depending on the weather I would like to depart Grenada around the 9th of November and a straight shot up to St Martin where I plan to keep the boat for a few weeks prior to moving her to the Virgin Islands to do some captain only charters.
My friend did the same trip in 45 hours however just over 3 days would be more realistic for the trip.

Re: Crew wanted Grenada to St Martin

Thanks for getting back to me. I would love to have you make the trip with me. Where are you now and would you be able to furnish your own transportation?

Thanks
Ken
