Charleston SC to Ponce Inlet, Florida

On or about June 6 my wife and I will be needing an additional crew member to sail our 40' Leopard Catamaran from Charleston to Ponce. Assume 2 to 3 days wind dependent.

All expenses paid. Fee negotiable.

Call Ed Koplin at 386-295-6264 or reply to this post.

Re: Charleston SC to Ponce Inlet, Florida

Hi,

I'm doing research on getting my own sailboat and have been crewing to better understand what I want in my future boat. I haven't sailed a large cat yet so this would be perfect.

I am intermediate sailor with knowledge of navigation systems and other onboard electronics and systems. I'm also familiar with manual coastal navigation. I'm good swimmer and certified diver. I have foulies and self inflatable PFD with harness, light, and tether. Last month I crewed Miami to Charleston on a 40' Caliber.

I am healthy, don't smoke, and drink socially. I own a business which allows for a flexible schedule. I'm easy going with pleasant personality and positive outlook.

Re: Charleston SC to Ponce Inlet, Florida

Thank you for your response.

Some sailing experience and the flexibility to leave from Charleston when the weather makes the most sense. Mostly the willingness to follow instructions. With three people on board, sailing through the night allows for 2 hour watches with 4 hours sleep per crew member before their next watch.

Our desire for an additional crew member is about enjoying the sail and not arriving in New Smyrna Beach exhausted.

Give me a call.

Wow! I'd love to do that Ed. I'm from NSB, living in Tampa right now. Can't get away but my heart jumped. Good luck!

I wish I could but look forward to seeing you in New Smyrna anyway!
Good luck finding a crew member for the trip.

Re: Charleston SC to Ponce Inlet, Florida

Hi Ed,

Are you still looking for crew? I'm based in Charlotte, NC so I can make it to Charleston in a few hours then take a flight back from somewhere near Ponce de Leon.

I'm a 28 year old guy with minimal crewing experience, though I have crewed aboard the Marigot, a Tartan 42, from Bermuda to New Bern, over a total of seven days and 700 nautical miles. That began with CF as well:

Feel free to ask Captain Steve for a reference on that voyage, where I took a regular watch. It was a similar setup - I flew one way to Bermuda and sailed back with Steve, Dorothy, and Kevin - all experienced sailors who taught me a lot.

cheers,
Hunter
