Hello caps,
My name's Chael. 26 yr old, male, 5'10, not so much brawn, plenty of brain matter. Speak Spanish, French, Portuguese,
English. I'm calm but not reserved, engaging but not overwhelming. I enjoy reading, and especially writing (velabas.com), and I take to travel drawings with a fervor. I've been traveling for 3 years from
Oregon to the bottom of S. America and back to
Cartagena. I'll be in
Cartagena until I meet a
captain who needs crew to get to
Panama. From
Panama I hope to either continue with that
captain or meet another whose
destination is anywhere on the other side of the world. I hope to arrive to
Asia within the year, overland.
I have crewed only two days as watchman from
La Paz,
Mexico to Mazatlan. I also crewed as watchman and misc. helper from Carti Sugdub through the other San Blas islands to Cartagena some 2 years previous.
As yall can see I have little sailing experience. However, I'm not intimidated by the sea, and in fact I greatly look forward to meeting hands with knowledge to teach me the ropes. What I can offer is the enthusiasm of an ernest and level-headed crew
member, and one who learns quickly. I also get good compliments about my
single pot
cooking.
I'm looking for serious captains who know what they're doing; but I appreciate above all those I can get along with, which usually means anyone, but in this case I'm hoping to connect with a
skipper who has the right balance of self-awareness,
humor and discipline.
As for me, well, the one sticking point is that I am also looking for a
boat that wants CREW, UNPAID, and not looking for contributions. I am willing to do anything and everything to
work for my place, but I'm traveling in such a way that I will not be able to make the kinds of contributions I've been seeing.
Please go ahead and send me a private message if you think you'll be in Cartagena or Panama between the dates of FEB 25 and the end of April, 2013.
Cheers
Chael
