Re: Captain Needed to bring Vessel from San Deigo to Seattle

"The worst part will be channel islands but well... you either plan for a "nicer" weather window or enjoy the bumpy ride until you're past them."

Apparently you've not sailed north of San Francisco. Here are some experiences my close friend and I have had in 7 trips from Seattle to San Diego

Cape Flattery to Columbia River buoy
SSW 15' breaking seas and 25 knots of wind for three days
NW 6' wind chop and SW 6' swells with 20 knots NNW wind for 24-hours
heavy fog and hundreds of gill netters for three nights
NNW 6' seas WSW 4' seas and no wind

Coos Bay to Noyo River
12 hour lightning storm
NW 18 - 25 knots and 4' seas for 24-hours
NNW 50-knots and 15' breaking seas for 18-hours
NNW 35 - 45 knots and 12' breaking seas for 12-hours
NNW 45-knots and 18' breaking seas (we hid in Coos Bay) for 36-hours

Noyo River to Half Moon Bay
NNW 8' seas NW 25-knots and heavy rain with zero visibility for eight hours
ENE 35 gusting to 50-knots and 10' swells with occasional breakers 10-hours
Zero visibility fog for more than 10-hours on several days and nights

Half Moon Bay to Pt Conception
NW 6' breaking seas NNW 25-knots and heavy rain with 20-yard visibility
NW 5' breaking seas NNW 20 - 30 knots for 12-hours
NNW 5' seas and ESE 25-knots for 8-hours
NW 5' seas and NNW 18 - 25 knots for 12-hours

None of those conditions are life threatening or even dangerous going downwind but, at least to my mind, would be impassable in a 37' Jeanneau going upwind.

Re: Captain Needed to bring Vessel from San Deigo to Seattle

Hello skipper,
I could do this for you,. By coindence, I had a delivery job from La Paz 2 Seattle lined up that fell through, I'm pretty sure my crew would still be available. My own Tayana 37 is currently in the Bay area, near my home. I would want to do this in two legs, San Diego to San Francisco, and then see what the weather conditions have in store. If we can beat the heavy Northwesters I would complete the trip, otherwise I can get you a secure double finger slip near my own boat for about 300 a month until more favourable conditions prevail.
I would not advise taking a boat of that size from San Francisco to Seattle during typical summer conditions, although it is possible that we could wait for a fat weather window.
I am 73, fit, and would bring a couple of younger offshore vets with me. I have been sailing all my life, Zihuat or Sea of Cortez and back more times than i can count. Also Pacific crossing, North Atlantic and Med.
Dont have commercial ticket, in my situation with expense sharing crew it is not helpful or advisable. Your insurance company will request - and accept - my boating resume in most cases. You should carry insurance.
I can cap the SD - SF leg at $ 1700 ex fuel and provisions.
I have a Viking 4 man canister we can use in case you do not.

Feel free to give me a call. Charles 510 825 8552
