I have my competent crew qualification, and have completed my day skippers course. I have my senior lifeguard award and SSB and VHF radio licenses. I am very enthusiastic, easy going and low maintenence. I love sailing, surfing and kitesurfing and also love to cook. will be keen to crew anywhere starting the 1st december 2011.

Welcome to CF Carmen! You may wish to list a starting point (where you currently are) or at the least, where you can travel to meet the boat.

How you do that I don't know. However like all things in this world there are great opportunities, and great opportunities for danger....

You should not have much trouble finding a position; however, be very careful.

One way to remove a lot of the risk is to sign on with a married couple -- perhaps one cruising with a younger child or where they've simply had enough of offshore two person watch schedules.

Be especially careful of the lone guy. I've known some wonderful single handers but they typically have made a life choice. They don't wake up one morning and say "Gee, I can't do this alone. I need an 18 year old girl to help me sail this boat".

Don't head off with a single guy unless what you want is a single guy who wants you. That could be a good thing or a bad thing.

Don't believe it for a second if he says all he wants you for is crew and things will stay platonic.

I agree that a family situation is the much safer deal.

try Yacht crew agency, yacht crew vacancy, sailing crew from Crewseekers
great site,you will have to pay if you want to contact owners/skippers.
heed the advice given,but most cruising people are pretty safe,pyc in durban in april has quite a few boats heading north.
royal cape yc in dec-jan feb is good for boats to brazil and caribean.

Don't believe it for a second??? That's a little harsh, don't you think? A second? Not all single-handers are rapists. As a matter of fact, I don't know one single-hander that's a rapist. I agree with being careful, though. Fine idea to be careful. You be careful, too, David M.

Yes I agree a little harsh.....

I bet lots of single handed yachtsman on this forum used to have a partner who forced them to walk the plank.....

The warning is should also be worded "single yachtman - also be warned; Taking a young pretty 18 year old on as crew could result in your 44ft yacht becoming in his and hers 22ft yacht".

Despite that: Sounds warnings applicable not just to an 18 year old.

Ok, you are right. But come on, this is definitely a situation where she has to be super careful because of all the single males that are looking for more than a platonic crew situation.

You'll be about a month late for the Caribbean 1500 Rally, but as was posted above, there will still be a few boats heading south after that.

Don't forget about passports etc. You'll need them for most places you are heading.

I gotta agree with David and Carl that its even harder to sort out if a solo sailor is the right oportunity to crew.

But as the others have said, don't tar us all with the weirdo brush
