I run a 40 Block Island.. It has a 16 footer, and is about 6 inches round.. I feel it is too big.. Because it is a pain to maneuver around etc. But it does the job and takes the strain and then some..!! Overkill I think..

I would recommend a 12 foot, that is 4 inches round..

I am familiar with Dufours having had a 34..

Loved that boat but lost it in Hurricane Hugo..

Yes, 4 inches diameter should do it, assuming it is for cruising. As to length, make sure it's a bit longer than your J dimension.

If you decide to build one yourself, get a tube that's longer than you think you might need, put it together and see if the length suits you. If it's too long, just take an end fitting off, cut the tube to the length you want and re-assemble. Actually, same goes if you buy a used one.... you can always reduce the length.

Hey someone who actually "knows" what they are talking about concerning spinnaker poles..LOL..

And I am assuming the "tube" is aluminum...

I have a 13'6" pole with 3" diameter for sale. Pistons on both ends and a pole lift bridle. Maybe a little small for you.

I would have thought that 4" might be a little on the large size for a 38" boat.

I have a 40' racer crusier and only use 3" with 1/8" wall (approx).

Buy your fittings from a chandlery or on-line (Mauri Pro are cheap with good service), buy your alloy tube (6000 series is best if possible - I think I went with 6061, but take advice if not sure), but from a metal supplier not a chandlery - it will save you plenty (I just bought about 13' of 60mm x 3mm for a friend's new pole for less than $50).

Rivet your end fittings on, and Robert is, as tehy say, your Mother's Brother!

The J on the boat is 4.5 meters, something over 14'. You'll have to go to a conversion table to find the exact length in inches. The pole is normally the length of the J for racing without a penalty. If you are cruising, all you have to worry about is how much pole you can handle. I'd estimate a 3" diameter pole which I think comes in a 14' tube length. A 3.5" diameter pole would be fine. 4" would be overkill.

I have a spinnaker pole that's 25 feet in length and 5" in diameter. It's structurally intact and can be taken apart to make a 12 ft pole or can be cut to a differnt length. It comes with the deck hardware for mounting. I'm accepting offers and can send pics if you need.

Hi, Do you still have your Spinnaker pole for sale? I am looking to see if 13'6 is suitable in length.

Hi,

I have a 3" spinnaker pole that has an adjustable length. It was used on our Gulfstar 37.

Thanks.

Craig,

The pole is in the local sail loft here in Jacksonville. It has been stored indoors for about 4 years. I think it is about 10'-11' at it's shortest which would make it about 15'-16' at it's longest. I can check it this week and give you more definite dimensions.

Thanks
