WTB - 80# Manson Supreme Anchor

Hi, I am looking for a larger Manson Supreme anchor, 80# would be preferable. Anybody out there looking to sell one? Please post or PM me if you want to deal. I am located in California.

Thanks, Bill

That size is way large for your boat. OK with me - I am just pointing out that you could save some money and maybe have better luck finding a smaller size. We have a Rocna 55# on our 40' catamaran, and that is nowhere near too small.

If you compare the dimensions of each anchor, you will see that for each size the Rocna is a fair bit larger than the Manson.

That may be true - Manson does not list the surface area of their anchors. But both are flat-plate anchors of similar design. Where does the weight go in the Manson if not in fluke area? Also, the sizing charts for both are the same recommendations.

Re: WTB - 80# Manson Supreme Anchor

You never can have too big of a anchor! well,, maybe a 1,000 lbs danforth on a 30 ft might be a tad hard to stow.
I've a 20kg bruce on my 34ft (40ft chain,100 ft rode.) going to west tomorrow to replace 66# bruce knok off that was stolen. It will hae 40' 1/2 chain and 100' 1' nylon rode. it gets put below aft bunk and i hope it stays there! But,, a storm coming it give me a nights sleep.

Out right now is 33# and 44# lewmar and i dont have to worry to much about dragging. im ashore and when palm branchs start flying i get up then get to go back to sleep.

Re: WTB - 80# Manson Supreme Anchor

Hi folks,

I agree that the 80# will be over kill for my boat, but it weighs near 40,000 lbs, has high sides, and is going to take me to Mexico and the South Pacific. I have a huge windlass and an all-chain rode, so the extra 20# over the 60-pounder will let me sleep better, especially in a blow. If anyone wants to sell a 60# I am also open to that.

Thanks, Bill

Thanks Skipmac, I am waiting for WM to have one of their 10-20% off sales to pull the trigger on a new one.

Cheers, Bill

Not easy to do an exact comparison, but 80lb Manson Supreme vs. 70lb Rocna:

Overall width: 19.75in 26.4in (makes a big difference if you have a bowsprit)

Fluke length: 25.5in 28.8in (might actually be a tad more if you laid it down)

Maybe its less steel in certain areas. The manson shank is super beefy with that slot.

I figured. That's what I did when I bought my New Zealand Rocna at WM. I got a wind generator a few years ago when they did a one weekend 40% off.

Have you thought about a Mantus? I bought a 65lb for my store in the bilge anchor and it looks very well made. Plus they're a good deal. 65lb for $570

Re: WTB - 80# Manson Supreme Anchor

An 80 lb Manson Supreme would be a little overkill, but an excellent choice for your CSY 44 if you are going to be doing some serious cruising. There is nothing better than knowing you can get a good night's sleep and that the anchor will not drag. Steve and Linda Dashew have long been proponents of "over-sizing" anchors on cruising boats.

I was searching for an 80lb Manson Supreme for my Peterson 46, when I stumbled across a new current production 72lb Rocna at a really good price ($557) so I bought it instead. Rocna now offers a lifetime warranty that covers even any bending or deformation of any part of the anchor - so you might want to check them out.

Cheers

"That size is way large for your boat."

Hard to tell someone NOT to sleep well at night, don't you think?

My friend's CSY44 walkover fully loaded weighed almost 55000lbs.
