Sweat? Those days mopping up sweat dripping into the epoxy inside the hull, feeling like an aged contortionist, limbs at most unnatural angles preventing becoming a permanent fixture of the boat! The allnighters, sanding, sanding, sanding. Working 1,2,3 jobs.
I deserve two boats.Wait I have two boats

BTW, BO, just what doesn't your Mrs like about boats?
If its longer sail than 1/2hr & heel is more than 10 dgrees mine want to get a plane. Did I mention noises? No creaks, groans or ominous sounds pls.

What we both need is sound methodogy into how to make ones Mrs fall in love with said boats. (And the ritual of standing in a cold shower ripping up big ones.)
Hold the raffle in non US waters?

Re: Wife Said SELL the boat!

All great post! Great ideas, on paper....

Had a few calls today about me boat, mostly tire kickers. Had one in particular, a guy who asked me a shitload of questions, and I answered best I could. One answer I had a little problem with. I tried to explain the difference between a modified full keel and a full keel. I was lacking in my discriptive verbage. I just told him to google a Westsail and then google a Seafarer and he would see the difference. In thinking later that I should just edit my ad to say a full keel instead a modified full keel, but that would be somewhat dishonest.

Also, another question arose in the conversation. The question of the centerboard. At one time this boat had a centerboard. If it is still in the hull is a mystery to me. I have looked at the bottom of the boat and where the centerboard should of come out is all fiberglassed up. Looking from the inside of my boat, I can see the mechinism which would of raised or lowered the board, but cannot see the actual board. How important or a non-issue not having a centerboard? My thinking may be faulty, but this doesnt seem a critical issue. I can understand if I was racing it would be an issue, but just for cruising I think its a non issue.

Lastly, I am not a very good salesman, and I really dont like the process of selling. Especially having people come on board, pulling everything apart, only to hear them say that they are looking for something bigger, wider, newer, roomier, etc. Its a necessary "pain in the ass" I know. But seriously, for a 10k boat, dont expect a Oyster or Benetau!

Re: Wife Said SELL the boat!

One would think that anyone who asked the question about different keels would already know what the differences are.

Lots of centerboard boats out that that have had the board fiberglassed in because owners decided that dealing with the board wasn't worth the sailing performance when pointing. Again if someone asks the question they should already know the answer.

To the people looking at a $10k boat the money probably seems huge to them.

LOL.... nothing to do with the above...
The marina here is 'modernizing' and hard standing is/has been done away with... so I'd have to truck her somewhere, find storage, then the cost of new cushions, windows, etc, etc. Last years fiasco did not help either.. she was untended and the tarp had torn in my absence, rain water was over a foot in the cabin...
Basically it boils down to much trouble and cost for me to be bothered... hell she only cost me £1000 when I bought her 3yrs back.... so I've her given (I covered the transport costs) her to someone half my age with twice the enthusiasm and energy...

Re: Wife Said SELL the boat!

Thumbs up to Boatman!

It's a brave person who can accept his limitations and move on (something many of us ignore and try to avoid), in a direction he may not really want. Good on ya, Boatie!
