Re: Wife Said SELL the boat!

BO... Here's a thought....

Totally agreed with your wife about being around... These are tough times, and the companionship for a mate to weather this "life storm" with, is priceless...

You are however, going to need to take breaks and get away for a few minutes now and then... What better way to do that than doing something you love then head home in the evening and take a hot shower???

PLUS!!!! If you take the missus for day sails... with sunsets and wine on a gentle lake.... She MAY..... Totally fall in love with your passion...

I say move the dang thing to Pickwick, and enjoy the summer with the mrs and the boat... $260 a month at either Grand Harbor or Aquayacht for your length...

When the time comes, you can sell her here for the same price (which is way too low in my opinion), OR decide this IS the boat you want to take to bermuda???

If you are even remotely interested in the idea... i WOULD BE HAPPY TO HELP bring her up here with you...

Thoughts?

What after a while you still have not sold your boat, which you say is ready for cruising, you donate it to a worthy candidate.? The candidate would have to want to sail around the world. How to chose such a candidate would need some figuring.

To compensate your good self a fund could be set up to deposit some monies into, by those following the adventures of the new skipper ?

It may not be the best option but it would mean some lucky/deserving individual gets a shot at living the dream. Also the yacht will not rot away abandoned somewhere?

Just thinking out loud....

And now for something completely 'Off the Wall'....
You say you want $10,000.... Why not hold a CF Members Only Raffle...
Pretty sure there's at least 500/1000 folk who are Members or Lurker's who'd either love a boat... or an Upgrade to a Seafarer 34.
At $10/$20 a pop with a limited (or not) amount of tickets I'm sure you'd get your price.. or more..
Dunno how one could set it up... (DOJ's feeling bored and restless might just kick him back to life) ... but once the tickets have all been sold there must be a way to get a random selection from a computer...
Hell could even be a CF run thing... boost the membership...

Eeeeeeee...... I can hear the Mod's snarling already.... lolol

I like this idea, it could work. The chance to own a cruiser for $20 would also make for a great post in shoestring sailors.

Re: Wife Said SELL the boat!

Errr.......paperwork. I'm sure some beureaucrat will want to dampen our enthusiasm. Just how hard is it to run a raffle in the US.

Sweat? Those days mopping up sweat dripping into the epoxy inside the hull, feeling like an aged contortionist, limbs at most unnatural angles preventing becoming a permanent fixture of the boat! The allnighters, sanding, sanding, sanding. Working 1,2,3 jobs.
I deserve two boats.Wait I have two boats

BTW, BO, just what doesn't your Mrs like about boats?
If its longer sail than 1/2hr & heel is more than 10 dgrees mine want to get a plane. Did I mention noises? No creaks, groans or ominous sounds pls.

What we both need is sound methodogy into how to make ones Mrs fall in love with said boats. (And the ritual of standing in a cold shower ripping up big ones.)

Re: Wife Said SELL the boat!

How about the donation idea to a fund so Black Oak gets his money.

Then to give the boat away, an essay on why you should get it.

then a poll to let the people who donated decide who gets the boat!

*************OR******************************

we could sell tickets so BO gets his money and I could buy 1 ticket and also be the one who draws the tickets (I would like his boat)

I'm fond of saying to anyone who asks how many my boat will sleep, "the answer is six, but four of them better be very close friends."

Re: Wife Said SELL the boat!

Not so fast about the raffle! People tried to sell their homes like that; buy a $100 ticket, and if the luck of the draw was you...you get the house for $100...ummm...the IRS stepped in. You cannot have a private lottery like this without approval of your state's dept. of treasury; bottom line...it is illegal. Now, if the lottery's winnings would go to charity...that's legal. We live in a complicated world. Mauritz

Re: Wife Said SELL the boat!

I think Boatman wants to move to the FL Keys for a while. Since he has given away his boat he therefore he would be eligible to be a winner of BO's boat for only $10.00 US and an airline ticket to Miami....some people will do anything for a good bargain......
