Re: Wife Said SELL the boat!

What did you say back when she said to sell the ghost. It would break my heart to hear those words.

Re: Wife Said SELL the boat!

A buddy put his boat up for $20,000 more than it was worth. When I warned him that he'd never sell it for that price, he laughed, explaining, "If someone's stupid enough to buy it for that price, I'm happy to sell it. Otherwise, putting it up for sale keeps my wife happy."

Re: Wife Said SELL the boat!

bash, sounds like my situation. after our last bahamas cruise, my wife decided we should sell the boat. so i put it up for sale at maybe 10 or 20 k more than anyone would pay for it. still not sold and i'm heading back to the bahamas.

and guess what. she's going too...

Re: Wife Said SELL the boat!

one of our locals here in florida, new to sailing, bought an old hunter 30 and spent a year refurbing her. wife helped him out too. but when it came close to leaving (doing the great loop) she said she wasn't going. went home to oklahoma. probably thought he'd give up and sell the boat.

well, he didn't. just kept finishing up the work himself. he let it be known he's leaving in june and guess what. she came back. guess being alone in oklahoma isn't all she thought it would be....

This is an extremely sturdy built Blue Water capable cruiser, that will take you anywhere on high seas. I am presently on the boat in Key West, FL.

This would be a perfect cruiser, blue water sailer, or live-a-board, though the live aboard would part be a waste of a very fine vessel. This boat deserves to be sailed...not docked and forgotten.

Specs on this vessel can be found at Saildata.com

Even done moderately successful, sailing is generally more rewarding than even a decent land based lifestyle. The monotony and rat race are just life sucking leeches to me.

It's a little hard to look your friends in the eye and say, "Well, I decided I'm go back to being an accountant and get a condo. The sailing thing is great but I really miss taking a hot shower and Starbucks."

But then again if the super banal stuff makes some people tick, so much the better.

even if you win the rat race,
you're still just a rat.

Re: Wife Said SELL the boat!

Come on, guys. Give him a break. All this talk about "sell the wife instead" is easy enough to say, and some may even be serious (though I'm sure most are just joking), but every individual has their own priorities in life, and their own reasons for the things they do. I'm sure this is a difficult enough decision for him without razzing him about it.

To BlackOak, good luck with the sale. Post a price, to give people an idea of where you're at. You should probably list it on sailboatlistings.com and on craigslist, also. Read through the thread entitled "Post the worst for sale pictures you've seen" to get an idea of what NOT to do, if you are serious about selling. And, personally, I would start a new thread here, without the "wife said sell" subject line, with some more pictures, and a price, to try to keep it a "serious" for sale listing.

Again, good luck.
