Want To Buy: Wanted: Henderson MkIII pump kit

hello;

i have an old (old old old) mk3 manual bilge pump on my (no longer new to me) boat. it's oval shaped with a lever tightening the front access plate, type P7/L MKIII. it no longer works - and i bet hasn't in a long time.

i contacted Whale Pumps and it's a model they discontinued many years ago (we knew that), and they couldn't point me to place where i could buy the kit, just said they believed the current (mk5) model uses the same diaphragm, and steered me away from making my own flapper valves (which i believe are the problem).

i searched the forum and didn't find much. any recommendations? i remember reading the mounting patterns are different between the mk3 and mk5 - so even if i were to buy a new mk5 i'm not convinced it's a drop-in replacement, and i have enough projects on my hands as it is. is anything they sell today - like Whale Spares Kit - going to fit?

I've made flapper valves with acceptable results. You can get nitrile in all thicknesses, and the shop I walked in to - commercial hose and rubber supplier - have me the little I needed. Not much to lose... if you are worried about diesel/oil you'd want viton rubber. Good luck.

Henderson were a company that was located on the Isle of Wight that was bought out by Munster Engineering in Northern Ireland. I have a Henderson Chimp Mk 111 and Munster/AKA...Whale supplied a top frame made for their urchin and it fitted exactly. So perhaps the other parts of the Urchin fit the Chimp ? unless the pump in question is even older than a henderson Chimp Mk111 and therefore totally different? which would explain why Whale were unable to help.

To complicate matters, Whale USA was just bought by Attwood. Things might be screwed up there for a while. Try smoothing the valve seats and if you have to try making the valves as Erik suggested.
