I wouldn’t recommend up sizing the alternator on a single lung engine.

Did you Google " Hitachi LR135 " ?

Replacement

I suggest going to a good automotive alternator shop.
Ask for a "takeoff" replacement.
These are alternators that were taken off new diesels and replaced with
different ones( Larger usually ).
They sell these takeoffs for around $200.
I have used these many times and the work well.

I have bought take offs from yanmar themselves. You just need to ask. Also KISS, aka Hotwire Enterprises in Tarpon Springs Florida has high output amps for sale

An automotive store that specializes in Japanese parts will have all the Hitachi alternators you want.

after mine got a saltwater dunking it died and I nearly died when given the price of a new one!! but a bedford rascal van or the tiny suzuki runabout delivery van has an alternator which with a little adjustment fits fine. and cost £10 ($15 USD) from the scrapyard. I bought 3 just in case and the original is still going strong.

Good luck

I have a brand new one available, which I removed and replaced with a Balmar and regulator on my 3GM30 on installation of the new engine. Send a private message for particulars

Roy M,

Unless you have another Balmar save the original Hitachi as a spare. That's what I did and have had to use it a couple of times. I left all the original wiring so it's a 15 minute job to swap back to the original.

well i went by the local rebuild shop, they want 100 to rebuild my 35 amp alt, and they will sell me a new 55 amp for 135, no shipping just tax

yes i know my 1gm will not like running the prop and a 55 amp under full load, but to me the yanmar is more on an onboard genny, and also only really used to get away from the slip.

now i just need to find an alt for an atomic 4 reasonably for a customer... this boat electrician/mechanic thing is great i have made 800 bucks in 2 days

to late to edit

yes i know not to run on idle, i will take the rpms up to the right rpms for the engine. i will have a 55 amp alt and about 200 amps of battery, so i will need to run the engine for 2 hours once or twice a week

My alternator quit on my Yanmar 6 yrs ago. I went to Advance Auto and matched it up with an auto . I had to swap pulleys. It has worked well ever since. Lifetime warranty.
