Wrench--thank you--I've been following that. Though there seem to be some inconsistencies between the seller's claims and his answers to questions. But that's just what I'm looking for.

Re: small 2-cylinder marine diesel engine

Just keep in mind that the easiest/cheapest replacement will be an identical engine that the boat is already set up for. Least changes equal least expenses. Just a thought. ____Grant.

Re: small 2-cylinder marine diesel engine

Thanks Grant. The boat had an ancient Volvo engine. So a direct replacement is out of the question. But we are prepared to make any modifications required to install an engine of more recent manufacture.

If you are considering new I highly recommend the Beta Marine engine. Marinized version of the Kubota tractor diesel. Excellent engines, great support from Beta and parts are cheap and easy to get.

Re: Small 2-Cylinder Marine Diesel Engine

The link goes to a 2GM which is the baby brother of the 2GM20 which is rated @ 18-20 horse rather than 13. If your motor needs are minimal you will be fine with the 2GM. Some have found the lower hp to be under powered for your size vessel.

Re: Small 2-Cylinder Marine Diesel Engine

Don't know why I added the "20" after 2GM.

The boat is a very easily driven Yankee 30 by S&S. 8700 lbs and a 23' waterline. So this 13 hp should be plenty.

My Freya 39 is 24,000 lbs and has the larger Yanmar 3QM30 (33hp). I actually have an entire spare engine.

Re: Small 2-Cylinder Marine Diesel Engine

I have the 2GM20F in a 28.5 Hunter and love it. Amazing little 2 banger and fuel sipper. Good luck with the install.
