Shipwrights & Technicians Needed, NY Metro Area
I am looking for "retired", experienced marine shipwrights and technicians looking to keep their hand in and earn some extra money in 2008. Skills needed are in all areas of traditional wooden boat repairs, varnish work, fiberglass repair, mechanical and electrical system repair and troubleshooting. The work will be on an as needed basis with travel within the NY Metro Area. As my client base is upscale only the highly skilled experienced "Craftsman" should apply. To be considered resumes outlining your areas of expertise and examples of you work, (Pictures) will be required.

Do you have a formal contracting or marine business, or is this something less formal that you are just starting up?

My plans for this summer are somewhat in flux, but possibly for electrical and electronic work. I've never bothered taking pictures of my work though, it has been avocational. Which leaves me curious to know what I'd be getting involved with.

In the metro area. With yards requiring outside contractors to be insured, some customers (even upscale ones<G>) being credit stiffs, and other complications of a litigious society, if you are looking for occasional subcontractors as opposed to p/t employees, the economics change. I'm not fixated on that--just asking you about the bigger picture on the "business" side.
"Upscale" clients brings to mind upscale yards, where formalities are often required. Maybe that's just my misperception and things are more casual up your way.

Customers pay me cash in advance, all work comes through word of mouth through satisfied clients. I have realationships with yards in the area that don't provide service and are happy to have us work for their customers, then their are projects where vessels are located on private property.
