For Sale: SD40 Saildrives

Replaced my saildrives with SD60s

Have two SD40 Saildrives for sale. Both have good legs. One leg was new this spring and only on my boat and in the water for <4 months.

Drive 1 $1500 - Has 5 month old SD50 Sail Drive Assembly (paperwork shows assembly date 6/2/14 and Serial number 07-6/02/14) I paid $2500 for this drive leg in June. Have all paperwork that came with the new drive leg. Problems with the upper part of the drive is a slipping cone clutch (CCW) and leaking seal at the shifter.
Also comes with:
SD50 Leg to Drive adapter
Damper Plate (with spline for SD40)
Yanmar formed raw water hose for JH3 engine
Spacer for Prop (came with new leg)
Nut for prop (came with new leg)
Yanmar Sail-Drive manual
Installation Template

Drive 2 - $500 - Original drive. Rebuilt in 2009 by Mack Boring. Cone clutch and leg are good. Leaking front and shifter seal. Also comes with:
Damper Plate (with spline for SD40)
Yanmar formed raw water hose for JH3 engine
Spacer for Prop
Yanmar Sail-Drive manual

All were finished with 2 coats of barrier coat and 3 coats of antifoul June of this year.

I'm in the Annapolis area. Can meet or deliver anywhere between Delaware and Myrtle Beach, SC.

Otherwise plus shipping freight (LTL) in the two SD60 boxes that I kept.

Unfortunately after I replaced the lower leg on the port drive this spring, the cone clutch started to slip over the summer/fall. Both the SD40 and SD50 have cone clutch problems and are no longer being manufactured by Yanmar. The new SD60 has a plate clutch and is the current replacement drive (it is not a bigger drive). I plan on leaving for a year+ cruise to Europe and back with wife and 3 kids and did not want to have any issues on the trip. Rather than lap the cone, and fix the leaking seals (which requires that I get hauled anyway) I just decided to replace them.
