Slip rents in San Diego have skyrocketed in the last five years. When I moved my boat here in September 2010 I was paying $700/month for a 40' slip. My March 2016 slip rent was $1,065 for the same slip. The monthly slip fee has gone up to $770, there is now a $250
liveaboard fee, $15 shorepower hookup fee, and $30 parking fee. And, the
WiFi service has been dropped so I have to pay $50/month to ATT for a
WiFi Hotspot.
I pay $125/month for boat
insurance, $65/month for a diver, $75 a month for county tax. Those expenses bring my total FIXED monthly expenses to $1,330 and I am not sure why I would rent my boat for less than what it costs me to keep in in San Diego. But, maybe I am missing something in this transaction.
A 45' slip (powerboat with two bedrooms and more headroom) is $925 plus all the other
fees so I would guess the boat owner would expect at least $1,220 just to cover the slip fee and expenses.
And, our marina has a clause in the slip rental agreement, which prohibits sublets or long term rentals. That clause was added in 2013.
Maybe there are other
marinas that are cheaper and more lenient but I know of four that are more expensive and much stricter.
