Details of loss? Nice dinghy so that's why I'm asking.

Dec 7...offshore OR. 50-60 knots storm force winds . 20.ft seas. Had the dinghy lashed to the cabin top...took.a hit which somehow broke off the stern of dinghy. Hard to believe I know. I went in the water and CG helo picked me up. See Youtube: The sinking of Tatoosh.

Sorry for your loss. It's hard to understand what it means unless you've been there and I have. Thank you for your reply to my question.

Re: Sail Rig - 7' Fatty Knees $895

You know, I really hope you will post that video on its own thread, it is a very good accounting of how a well-found boat (and a very sea-worthy and capable design,) and a very experienced and competent skipper can still see things go south. I don't think it relates anything to be ashamed of. You had plenty of plan "B"s. It really could be very instructive to everyone here, especially those contemplating single-handing, and/or sailing the Pacific Northwest. It points out so many important things that many people have not experienced. For what it's worth, I think you absolutely made the right call, and by the way, I wonder how many yachts carry DeLormes and survival suits? A less skilled/experienced sailor would probably not be around to tell the tale. And to your final point, I too worry more about my family than myself. Glad you made it home, for yourself and your family. And thanks again, as always, to the Coast Guard for their incredible skill and professionalism.
