Please Help Identify This Boat

A picture of the boat is attached. It is an old boat and will need a lot of restoration, but the boat has a lot of sentimental value to me. It hasn't sailed since '97. I also haven't talked to the people who are selling it because i want to do as much research as I can about the boat to make sure I would actually want it, as I don't want to waste the sellers time. Thank you and if you know, please email me at mattwollam@gmail.com

Re: Please Help Identify This Boat

You or someone else will want to look at the hull ID number (HIN). It is located on the starboard side of the transom just below the gunwale. The manufacturers code is part of the HIN.

The HIN is also listed in the vessels registration papers. It is the automotive equivalent of the VIN. All US manufactured or imported boats since 1972 have a HIN.

The MC in the registration numbers designates it as a Michigan registered boat. Information relating to a boats registration number (the number on the bow) is kept confidential by the state of registration, unlike federal registration (documentation) which is public information.

Re: Please Help Identify This Boat

There are several S2 26s listed for sale that look to be in running condition for as little as $5000. If this one is in really bad condition you could end up spending more than the boat is worth to fix it up.

Only if you have a personal connection to this exact boat would I consider it.

Re: Please Help Identify This Boat

S2 built different kinds of 26s. The one in the photo looks like the S2 8.0 A (versus 8.0 B and 8.0 C). Here's a link for more info: S2 8.0 A sailboat specifications and details on sailboatdata.com

Re: Please Help Identify This Boat

Whatever you do don't let the seller know you have an attachment to the boat. If the boat is in as poor condition as you imply it would have very little value.
