Piana 30 Catamaran

Hi,

I'm now selling my 1999 Piana 30, currently located in Sardinia, to make way for a larger yacht that I'm going to spend more time on following retirement. looking for €67,000. VAT has been paid.

Pictures are at http://idr.www.idnet.com/Yasawa

It's a fun small cruising cat built by Naval Force 3 weighing less than 2 tonnes and is built of epoxy ply and equipped with twin 9.9 HP outboards and 50 Sq Mtrs of plain sail. My predecessor claims he managed 18.4 knts - I suspect this may have been over the ground in a fast tide. I've managed 12 knots but I'm fairly cautious and tend to reef early.

She sleeps 4 in three cabins. Two singles forward in each hull and a small double aft in the starboard hull. There's the possibility of making a double bed in the saloon (but I've never worked out how to do this!).

Hi

Thanks. I've always thought she's a pretty cat. :-)

Principal dimensions are

Length 9 Mtrs (30ft)
Beam 5 Mtrs (16.4ft)
Draft 80 cms (31 inches)
Air Draft 13 Mtrs (42.6 feet)

Weight is about 1,900 KG (1.91 tons). Allegedly.

She is homologated CE Category B and verified unsinkable.

Sadly not.... Or at least not ones I'm prepared to share, mast down transiting the Canal du Midi! There's a movie taken by a canal boater that includes some footage of the boat.

http://idr.www.idnet.com/Movie/canal.mp4

In my defense she's 5Mtrs wide and the lock gates are 5.10Mtrs wide ...... you'll see what I mean if you watch the movie. The lock keepers were playing games, pushing us in first and then opening the sluices as quickly as possible to see if they could get us sideways across the lock.

I'll take some photos next time I'm out there. In the meantime here's a couple looking aft. Engines are out of the water and she's shifting..... The tanker in the backround is at anchor or I'd not have gone anything like as close.

(Note the rear wing to keep her in the water...... or at least, that's what I tell my non sailing buddies! )

Re: Piana 30 Catamaran

We really enjoyed your video of your cat in the French canals & locks and can see what you mean re negotiating the width looks a bit scary especially with them opening up the water flow so fast yiiikes! Looks like a great cat - wish I was a bit closer to Sardinia Such relaxing music tacks in the video (particularly the first 2 tracks) could I ask what they were?

Track 1 - French Musician Yodelice - "Talk to me"
Track 2 - George Delerue - Adagio

The rest I have no idea.... Sorry.

As for being closer to Sardinia all you need to do is to buy my boat. I'll even pay your airfare. (Tourist - one way!)

She has been a fun boat to sail and spend time on board. Going up the Canal du Midi was actually quite tough. We had no idea what to expect and were novices. A bank holiday weekend saw us stranded in port as the locks either side of the town were shut for three days. The Capitennerie was closed so no access to showers or toilets and the holding tank was full.

It took two weeks to reach Toulouse from Sete. On the way down (a long story but the Admiral convinced me that keeping the boat in the med was better than the south coast of England) we went for it. Every day, 20 minutes before the locks opened we were ready to go through, first boat in the queue and we directed the other boats into positions that suited us. Going down was easier and calmer. The water just drains away.

We were shouted at by a motor boat owner for going too fast and rocking his boat at it's mooring. I could have spent an entire day driving past, turning round, and driving past again just to hear a motor boater complaining about the wash....... Is that mean? As it happened we produced minimal wash due to the light displacement and eventually the roars subsided and became angry muttering and then faded away altogether as we caused narry a ripple onto ruffle the surface of his glass of Pernod.

With the Rhone in flood and and a strong wind blowing up river we hit 6ft waves on the river and nearly lost the mast. Wasn't expecting that inland! Two weeks after leaving Toulouse we'd passed Sete, Canal du Sete a Rhone, passed down the Rhone to Port St Louis and locked through then arrived in Port Napoleon.

Great trip and I heartily recommend a visit to this historic waterway.

Here's the first of a series. For some reason my iPad won't let me upload several images. Looking into the cockpit showing the Genoa and Spinnaker winches plus the throttles. Respelendant in her new paint and anti-slip.

Here's a shot from on-shore. It's a little busy and that dirty round fender isn't one of mine. I'm guessing the yard put it there but I have no idea why. You can also see one of the two Helmsman's chairs that slide into Teflon runners for more comfortable passage making.

This picture shows the tiller bar, one of the tiller arms with the fuel locker underneath, one of the outboards tucked away in the corner and the rear decking. I usually stand behind the tiller when docking.

Re: Piana 30 Catamaran

Hi

The boat is now ashore in Port Napoleon, at the mouth of the Rhone. Nearest airport is Marseille.
