CAST OFF! “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” Attributed to Mark Twain. We cast off 20 years ago and have had a wonderful time, but unfortunately, my husband died recently. Sailing without him feels wrong, so the SY FREE needs a new owner. The yacht is currently lying in Trinidad, so come and start cruising!

Custom built, ABS Certified, Doug Peterson 46’ Center Cockpit yacht offers the performance one would expect from the three-time America’s Cup winning designer. The SY FREE, built under close supervision by its experienced sole owner, can be sailed easily by a couple or even single-handed. Her Hood sails are bulletproof and she is known to make 10+ knots on a reach or surf downwind under full spinnaker. SY FREE has never been raced, chartered nor bashed to windward. She is a gentleman’s pleasure yacht, treated with tender loving care and sailed throughout the Caribbean.

Whether under way or preparing a sumptuous holiday dinner for eight, the galley makes cooking a breeze. The teak saloon combines a folding table with abundant storage areas under the settees, louvered door cabinets, and shelves, to produce a balance of utilitarian seaworthiness and beautiful comfort. The 26 opening ports and hatches ensure excellent ventilation and light.

Anchoring is made quite manageable using the dual capstaned SS windlass, strong ground tackle, and Volvo 62hp engine, so the first mate has no trouble, even if alone. The roomy cockpit is a restful retreat. It is great for entertaining with a large or small binnacle mounted teak table. A Sunbrella bimini with many removable shades provides effective protection from the sun or rain.

The airy aft master stateroom has an overhead hatch, hanging locker, ample drawers and shelves, vanity with seat and mirror, private companionway to the cockpit, and an ensuite head. The forepeak stateroom also has an ensuite head, louvered hanging locker, drawers, shelves, and cabinets to provide storage with ventilation. “Formosa Boat Building …a near legend in the industry” (Cruising World, 1987) cured the SY FREE in air-conditioned facilities, per ABS specs for strength and uniformity.

More pictures available on my website sites.google.com/site/yachtfree.

She is priced at US $189,999.

Can't imagine why I didn't include that in the initial write-up, too much fun in the sun.

Sorry for your loss. The boat has great pedigree (I own the little sister KP44) and she looks very well maintained.

You might consider listing her at the Peterson 44/46 owner's website:

Good luck!

Price Reduction Peterson 46'

SV FREE is really listed for $179,999. Definitely too much fun in the sun, the fingers aren't even working correctly!
