Perkins 4.108, 4.154
I have two 4.108's in the machine shop getting new cylinder liners,, then they will be rebuilt, new pistons, rings, bearings, valves, springs, gaskets, etc. Basically all new except the block, head, crankshaft, cam and some ancilliary items. They will be available later this month.
I am also doing a repair on a Perkins 4.154.
Prices vary depending on requirements, i.e., "long block", "short block", complete engine w/starter, expansion tanks, heat exchangers, etc.
You pay shipping from Pensacola, FL. Rebuildable core engine required or + $500.

Re: Perkins 4.108, 4.154
Can I get prices for each engines? Complete (or as complete as possible) -- a friend of mine on the boat next to me needs one for his Hallberg Rassey, we'd be happy to throw in the rebuildable core of his volvo MD21A

Re: Perkins 4.108, 4.154
What is the price for long block and short block, no accessories?
Don't need shipping, I can pick-up.
Thanks

Re: Perkins 4.108, 4.154
To define "long block":
many items on your old engine are in good shape and may be reused, which reduces your price. Items we do NOT provide on long blocks & price if needed. Perkins 4.108 only. * signifies NEW
*starter $165
*alternator $95
heat exchanger $400
exhaust manifold $450
expansion tank $300
*raw water pump $642
bell housing $650
adapter plate $350
flex plate $ 60
Transmission $500 to 1500
trans cooler $130
Our price for a repaired/rebuilt to Perkins specifications $4,500 + core engine
Re-manufactured $5,995 + core
Also add shipping from 32507 and sales tax if you live in Florida
We have one rebuild and one re-man underway now, 4.108's ready in about two weeks.
We only have one 4.154 which will be rebuilt when someone wants it, $5500 or $3000 as is. Yanmar 4JH-2LT new old stock, $6000
We haggle ;-)

Thanks, but we do not need any mooring anchors and we do not work on "Green Griefs".
See prices posted below.

Re: Perkins 4.108, 4.154
Sorry no 4.91.
You may upgrade to a 4.108 with few changes.
I see you are in Fairhope, call and come see what I have.

Re: Perkins 4.108, 4.154
Tom,
May be over that way in June'ish. Love to see your inventory, but I gotta say doubling my HP is probably not where I am at. My engine compartment is already a PITA to work on.

Re: Visiting Bayou Chico
To all you cruisers,
If you ever find yourself in the Pensacola area, you are invited to visit us. We will make room at our dock, less than 5.5' draft or we have a well protected anchorage about 1/4 mile to the east. You can use our dinghy dock and we will take you shopping, West Marine is close, groceries, the Naval Air Museum, old town Pensacola or just sit on our deck by the BSH and have a few cool ones while swapping sailing stories.
If you are rolling through, we have a small guest cottage, sleeps two.
Age and health issues preclude our sailing away again, but we still dream about our 18 years of living aboard and roaming around on Satori, our Cal Cruising 46.
The end of our dock is N 30 24.329 by W 087 15.767
Send us a PM when you are coming.

Re: Perkins 4.108, 4.154
Tom,
Would love to meet you and Bobbie. We have been nearby several times having had work done by Rick Zern in bayou Chico and also enjoying the Palafox Pier. Sad to hear that you don't have any grand plans for cruising in the near future, but I am envious of the 18 years you were able to spend doing so. Lots of great people and memories I am sure.

Perkins 4.154 parts are available, after market as Perkins has obsoleted the engine. Since it as a limited production run as compared to a 4.108, rebuild kits for a 4.154 are almost $2,000 vs. 4.108 kit is $700USD.
Change your oil as Ma Perkins advises, do not overheat, adjust the valves, change oil and filters as directed, test and calibrate the fuel injectors,("atomizers" in Brit), each 1,000 hours and it will last forever - well almost. You may expect an easy 10,000 hours of engine life compared to the high revving, light weight POS's from the east that may last 1,500 hours before a major rebuild.

Re: Perkins 4.108, NO more 4.154's or 4.107's
We have learned that rebuild parts for Perkins 4.108's are readily available, high quality and at a fair price. Not so for the 4.154, $1,932 for an incomplete kit and the 4.107 kit is $1,500. So after we complete the one each 4.154 & 4.107 that are in our shop, we will only do 4.108's and 4.236's.
We have a completely re-manufactured Perkins 4.108 LONG BLOCK ready to ship. We will also be selling our remaining parts for the 4.107 & 4.154. Send an e mail for parts you may require.
Keep the dry side up,
Tom
