you can buy self etching primer in either
epoxy or other two
parts from your local automotive
paint store, the skies the limit on
price though so be careful, I buy a lot of my paint surplus from either Boeing or one or the other aircraft manufacturers, you can find people selling this stuff online on places like eBay etc. look around you'll find it. As far as the two-part
polyurethane aircraft paint the same goes for it to, remember preparation is everything, if you have noncompatible paint underneath either the primer or the finish coat it won't hold up, it's a good idea to remove everything you can before you paint anything, using a
commercial grade paint stripper and a pressure washer is a good idea, I use a hot
water steam Jenny pressure washer and the above mentioned stripper then I either use the self etching primer or a strong phosphoric acid solution to etch both the
steel, cast-iron and
aluminum, keep both the acid and the methylene chloride(paint stripper) away from wires, hoses, or plastic
parts, what you want to look for in your paint stripper is the highest amount of methylene chloride, this is a chemical that actually does the
work, be very careful with this stuff the higher content methylene chloride strippers will almost instantly destroy soft membranes like eyeballs and will boil your fingernails right off your hand in short order, not to mention what it will do to your sex life if you splash some of this on your trousers and you'll disturb the neighbors with all that screaming.
extremely detrimental to your
health in general, lots of fresh air protective
clothing, rubber gloves, facemask, face shields etc. but it will remove almost every
single spot of paint , primer ,glue oxidation etc. from anything metallic, is also the chemical used in
commercial grade carburetor cleaner.
