Re: parachute sea anchor wanted

Be very careful with this. We are 58 feet monohull 36 tons. The same size anchor is calculated for us. After much on line discussion with the Pardeys and others, we decided that this is too large to deploy and operate safely and that it would be highly unlikely to ever retrieve it. It is also likely to yank most fittings from the boat. I recommend you get a copy of Pardey's STORM TACTICS & see what might be best for you. If you still think a sea anchor is right for you look into a series drogue.

Not sure I agree with that advice. And yes, I have used a para anchor in anger. Have a look at http://www.paraseaanchor.com/assets/...size-chart.jpg for sizing advice. IMO WA Coppins make the best anchors available. A Para anchor and a series drogue have different uses IMO.

Re: parachute sea anchor wanted

I have a para anchor southern 24. Never been used.

Para Anchor Southern Ocean 24 (24ft) | Safety Equipment | Adventure Safety

Also 100+m of around 40mm braided nylon rope, and 20 metre 25mm nylon bridles. All with hard eyes spliced in, and all shackles, bouys, and other associated hardware.

It's all in Qld Australia.

Haven't really thought about selling but if you're interested, pm me.

Thanks for the advise. We have researched this issue very extensively and have carried a para-anchor on other cats for many years. There is no absolute answer to heavy weather last resort tactics for cats but para-anchors is just one strategy IF set up correctly. Series drouges are also useful but for different applications and circumstances. A lot depends on the design of the boat.
Cheers,
Bill

Sorry to enter in here as I don't have a sea anchor to sell. I'm looking at purchasing a 56' Lagoon cat and have read a lot about drogues vs sea anchors. I'm still perplexed. Since you mentioned you have spent a lot of time researching which was best for your cat do you have advise for a 56' Lagoon cat?

Thanks,
Chaya
