Specifically: 2-stroke Yamaha Outboard Motor 25hp, 15hp, and 9.9hp Lightweight two-stroke portable outboards

Ram,
Since you are in South Florida and your profile says you are cruising ...... If you can get over to the Bahamas, you can get one from any Yahama dealer ..... I reccomend Abaco Ship Yard (Abaco Yacht Services) at Green Turtle. Outboards have always been cheaper in the Bahamas than in the USA .... something about import fees, subsidizing, or something like that.

Ram,
Pat (my wife) just reminded me that there is also no sales tax in the Bahamas .... On a $2.000 outboard that amounts to an additional savings of about #200 depending on where you would buy an outboard in Florida. I really dought you find a new 15 two stroke outboard in Florida or anywhere else in the US for that matter.

OK guys, what's going on? I just noticed today that a lot of US Yamaha dealers are advertising new 2008 15hp 2-stroke outboards (model #15MSH). What's going on? Have the rules changed?

I don't know of any rules changes. I just saw a picture of one at Gulf Shores website. The picture is different than the one I bought 3 months ago in the Carib. On mine the water intake is under the skeg while on this one it was on the side like the older models.

Does anyone know the prop size that Yamaha ships with this engine. My dinghy has way too much speed and could use some more low end power. I would like to reprop.

I don’t know which OEM prop is shipped with the new 15HP Yammis, but there are several props available, depending upon your intended speed requirements. See the recommendations below:

Yamaha seems to ship the 15 with different sized props. The best size I've found is
9 1/4 x 10 1/2 J. There are many sizes ranging from 9 1/4 x 9J up. I find the 10 1/2" pitch gets you up on plane the fastest.
