Morgan 54 (Centerboard) Hull/Deck For Sale
Morgan 54 (Centerboard) Hull/Deck For Sale
Being put up for sale (New and Never Used):
A Morgan 54 (centerboard model) hull and flush deck fabricated at
Morgan Yachts in St. Petersburg, FL back in 1970. The prototype
Morgan 54 was the ocean racer RAGE designed/built in 1968 by Charley Morgan.
Specs: http://sailboatdata.com/viewrecord.asp?class_id=2811
Centerboard hull: draft with board up: 5.67' ...draft with board down: 12.5'
Ballast......Keel: 17,000 pounds .....Centerboard: 800 pounds
Was hauled back to Duluth, MN from the Morgan plant and the hull and deck have beenin storage since then. The original intent was to create a world class cruising sailboat for a life of cruising around the world but that never transpired. Photos from the transporting of the hull back in 1971 attached. Updated photos will be available when the storage
building is taken down in the near future.

Re: Morgan 54 (Centerboard) Hull/Deck For Sale
The hull was my fathers. It gave him almost 40 years of great joy looking for parts for the Morgan 54 and constantly planning what he was going to do. I think he read every book ever written on cruising / sailing from Slocum's book on solo circumnavigation to all from the present day. He kept piles of the Latitude 38 cruising magazines that he would reread.
I think knowing that the hull was there kept him always thinking of and moving toward the future despite a number of health setbacks thru the years. Hoping this hull will fit in with someone elses dream of the cruising life.

thats a nice story. if the price is right, and condition is good, it may sell. the bad news is it is barely worth anything

Re: Morgan 54 (Centerboard) Hull/Deck For Sale
IMHO, the 54 was the prettiest boat Charlie ever built. I remember when Homer Denius sailed Rage here in the races. A local guy Jimmy Farris (sp) had one as well, My Gal.

Re: Morgan 54 (Centerboard) Hull/Deck For Sale
I had a chance to go see and go thru the Morgan 54 racer "Rage" when it had been passed on to the Naval Academy in Annapolis at some point in the late 70s or early 80s. They used it for training I believe. It was a treat to see one actually completed....
I believe it is now or has been racing again on the west coast out of Ventura, California by Tom Roland.

Re: Morgan 54 (Centerboard) Hull/Deck For Sale
There are two prices basically.
For the hull with centerboard and flush deck, we are looking for $40,000.
We are also looking to sell it as a package with the rest of the items gathered
thru the years including:
Set of masts for Ketch rig custom manufactured by Sound Spars
from Long Island (custom-never used)
Sail set made up for the rig (custom-never used) thought to be from Cheong Lee Sailmakers .
Hundested 4 blade Variable pitch propeller unit (new-never used) Purchased directly from Hundested
Wagner hydraulic steering set up (new-never used)
Perkins 4-107 diesel engine ("1975" new-never used but in running condition)
Several assorted heavy duty anchors, winches, galley stove.
Several custom tanks to fit the narrow keel area of the hull.
For the Boat hull/deck and rest of items listed : $80,000
Will be gathering photos and model numbers for the items above in the next 2 weeks
if interested.
thanks
Eric

i guess you better finish the boat yourself. if it was complete and in good condition, you may get 60-80 for it. in pieces, with everything, its worth about 8-10K.
trust me, i have looked at 15 different project boats.
sell the parts separate, you can get a nice chunk of change for them!
you could probably sell the engine, prop setup, and everything else, for well over $10,000 maybe more. the hull is nearly worthless. maybe 2-4,000.
here is one that just needs light work...
$25,000. wired, full interior,

Unfortunately this is true. Even in the strong sale years all parts and hull might bring 10k. Today 5 K for everything
