Interesting! Have you rigged some quick release method so that you can disengage the vane quickly from the
helm? The stock adapter has two mated rims, one affixed to the wheel spokes and the other that carries the line, with a pin that locks the outer to the inner.
While the much greater diameter gives you more torque (and I've never seen the stock adapter struggle in that respect), it also makes for a less responsive set-up, as the stock adapter will turn the wheel faster.
I suppose if you wanted faster response you could find a
kids tricycle wheel, that's about the right size!
