Monitor Wind Vane

I have acquired a Pearson Vanguard 32 with a 1991 Monitor Wind Vane that I won't be needing. It was used on 3 separate Alaska cruises and is in good shape. It is currently in storage and not mounted to the boat. I'm asking $1700 for it.

Re: Monitor Wind Vane

I am interested in the wheel adapter if you have one and will sell it separately. Please pm me if you have one. Thanks,

Re: Monitor Wind Vane

Fstik, I made my wheel adapter with 20 dollars worth of welding, a bike rim and some special knots. My commercial captain friend who recently passaged with me says it works as well as his from monitor.

Re: Monitor Wind Vane

nice newt....that should absolutely work as well if not better as the diameter of your wheel adapter is larger so it should have more power than the standard monitor one

Interesting! Have you rigged some quick release method so that you can disengage the vane quickly from the helm? The stock adapter has two mated rims, one affixed to the wheel spokes and the other that carries the line, with a pin that locks the outer to the inner.

While the much greater diameter gives you more torque (and I've never seen the stock adapter struggle in that respect), it also makes for a less responsive set-up, as the stock adapter will turn the wheel faster.

I suppose if you wanted faster response you could find a kids tricycle wheel, that's about the right size!

Re: Monitor Wind Vane

Elias,
I have another interested party in the Midwest. I'll check on their status and on shipping options and let you know.

Re: Monitor Wind Vane

I have an interested party but nothing confirmed yet.
The stainless steel tubing I have was designed for my Pearson. Scanmar International in Richmond CA can give you a quote on the tubing for your application. Their # is 510-215-2010. I do know that the history of my Monitor is that it was originally purchased in '91 for a Baba 30. Whether or not my tubing can be made to work for your application I can't say. The photo I posted of the manual includes the photo of the tubing design.

Re: Monitor Wind Vane

If that would work on my Cape Dory 30k id be interested. Not sure about mizzen boom interference. Has anyone seen one of these used on a ketch?

Tim,
Check with Scanmar. They will know if that will work. The number is on a previous post.
