Beautiful boats. I almost purchased one about 8-10 years ago, they were asking 100k, a bit out of my
budget and she was just too big and a little down on her luck. I still don't know if I should be sad or grateful I did not adopt her.
You are probably aware that one was destroyed when a car crashed into her while
on the hard in her owner's yard, knocking her off the stands and crushing the
hull beyond economical repair. I
recall that was in
New England somewhere.
My uncle, Bill Caldwell, formerly owned "Spirit", #6, which has been
for sale in the Chesapeake for quite some time, although she is not officially listed anywhere I am aware of. My guess is the owners have high expectations about her value. I believe she is the Virginia
boat you mentioned.
The mercer44.org website does not seem to have been updated for quite a few years unfortunately.
A USCG search for documented vessels named WINSOME shows this one, with a length of 35.9 which matches with other documented Mercers, a build date of 1966 and a former name of SUNDOWN. Bingo!, but a
Newport RI hailing port and a Rye NY owner.
