Re: Lewmar 65 self Tailing winches 1200.00
I am interested in your winches if they will fit on my Shannon 38 where I now have 2 very large non-self-tailing winches and I have a lot of good stuff to trade but no 50 self-tailers. I have a new, still in the boxes, lewmar electric 40 self tailing winch. I have a brand new cqr 25 and a band new simpson lawrence cqr knockoff and tons of other good sailing stuff. Are yo interested?

No, I have pretty much all new stuff you have mentioned. But if you want to buy at 2K that's a heck of a deal from what my research shows.

Re: Lewmar 65 self Tailing winches 1200.00
I will be back at the boat no later than wednesday and take a few measurements. can you send me a photo or two of the bottom of the winches with a ruler so that I can see whether the hole alignments might fit with the winches I would be replacing with them.
Thank you

Are one aluminum and the other stainless drums?

No, the one in the background is not self tailing and is not for sale.

What are the winches made of, specifically; the bases, & the drums? Also, is there any corrosion on/in the winches, especially on the undersides of the bases?

The winches are Stainless drums, Bronze guts and gears, and black Phenolic base. I don't any rust. They do need a good servicing. I can send more pics to anyone interested.

65s would be ridiculously huge on a 38' boat.

Interesred.
How good is the chrome? Have they ever been rechromed.
Where would they ship from.
Any issues?
Can you send close ups of the chrome.

They are not Chrome. They are Stainless. No issue I know of. They would ship from New Bern NC.

Re: Lewmar 65 self Tailing winches 1200.00
Ok so is there any wear or loss of stainless on the drum base. I have these winches and mine show some loss of surface down to a dull finish. I dont think they are solid stainless. I am looking for shine. Also are the jaws worn? Do they hold the sheete? What size sheets will they take? Why are you replacing them.

I don't know what to say. Stainless is not a plating. It does not come off. It will get dull like these are. They can be polished to look like new with a little polish and elbow grease. The jaws are some what worn. They are nowhere near new. What size sheet... will they take BIG. I would say 9/16 wouls be almost to small a sheet. They were never installed on my boat. I bought them and they are TOO BIG. They have a 11 inch base and will not fit my boat thus the cheap price. Or trade for a 50st.

Re: Lewmar 65 self Tailing winches 1200.00
Those are good winches for headsails up to 750 ft2. Not real fast, but the low gear is powerful enough to really tighten things up. Mine were chromed bronze, which got dull and were easily re-chromed. I used 9/16 sheets, but the tailer would take up to 3/4.
