Honda EU2000i Companion Generator

This generator is 2 weeks old. We bought to top up our batteries but found out that is cannot work with our charger. Generators can't be returned in Florida so we have a generator that was used 3 times and has full warranty. We bought it is Stuart ,FL. We have to switch to solar, so it is for sale. We paid $1240 for it and we will consider $900 . We are in Vero Beach municipal marina now and after installing solar panels we are headed to lake worth and then the Bahamas. Our US phone # is 321-544-8466.

Re: Honda EU2000i companion generator

Which charger do you have?

I tried the same generator once on a 3000 watt/100 amp at 13.7 VDC Statpower (now Xantrex) and the charging load would kill the generator. In looking back at it I should have reduced the maximum charging load, which on the Statpower was adjustable. From what I remember your generator is rated somewhere around 12 amps at 120 VAC

If the charging load is the reason it will not work then perhaps your charger might have the ability to reduce the maximum charging load.

You have a really nice generator and it seems a shame to not be able to use it. I would first see if your charger has an adjustable charge setting and if not look into a smaller charger or a charger that does have adjustable settings.

black and decker makes a 40 amp smart charger, although a portable may not be ideal it works fantastic with my honda eu2000i.

Re: Honda EU2000i Companion Generator

you could/should be able to adjust/control your charger to start off with a lower charging current and then ramp up so that your generator would be able to handle it... I have a 40A charger and my honda 1000EU handles it fine at 40A

good luck
