Hobie 16 Sails Wanted

We are looking for sails for our Hobie Cat (16').
It is primarily used for lake sailing in South Florida (see chart screenshot below) but we'll be moving it to the beach if we can get some good sails.

We are willing to drive to pick them up if they are in good condition. We are in Boynton Beach, FL.

Thanks everyone!

This is a class vessel. There are many certified sources for "legal" sails, just like Sunfish and many others. A simple on-line search will reveal many sources. Note - don't leave the sails on the boat when you are not using them. Too much damage from wind, sun, birds etc.

Only OEM (Hobie) sails are class legal for H-16's.

Hobie sources their sails from some loft or perhaps multiple lofts. These are also marketed through many sources. If You plan to race, you need these sails. Other sources may also be available. I know for instance that I can buy class sails through my local sail loft or many marine brokers and chandleries. You might even get lucky and find NOS sails on EBAY. I bought class sails for my Tornado from a regular sail maker. They had been run by a Canadian team in the lead-up to the Olympics. Great price & only used a few times.

Re: Hobie 16 Sails Wanted

Hobie originally had a licensed loft. They later bought it out or absorbed. My understanding is all Hobie approved sails are currently built and sold by Hobie (and hobie licensed dealers). Here is the sail rule:

SAILS
12.1 Class legal sails shall be made from HOBIE
CAT CO official patterns and manufactured and
distributed by the HOBIE CAT CO or their currently
licensed sail makers unless specified differently
in individual boat class rules

Hobie set out (and based on the number of boats sold succeeded) to be somewhat different than "class boats" which often have allowable parameters within which owners trick out their boats. Instead Hobie created a "one-design boat" which was intended to keep uniform boat and ownership costs down (with the nice ancillary benefit to the company of maintaining control of all the major component sales -). Anyway, its been nearly 10 years since I sold my hobie (still miss it) but that's the way I recall it.
