Re: Harken Big Boat Traveler

Barry,

Thanks for the quick reply! As these specialty items usually go, I need to make sure that it would suit my boat's specs to retrofit your system onto it. My current traveler track spans across the cockpit unsupported and fastened only at the ends on the gunwale boxes. It looks like your track needs fastening all the way across. I may be able to bolt it to my existing track or may need to get a high beam track to fit your car and end blocks, if tracks are still available for that model. What is the height and width of your track and how does it get mounted?

My track's span is 56" so I would have to cut your track to fit. Is that possible with yours and not affect the end block's mounting ability?

I've included 2 images to give you an idea of what I have now to see if a fit is possible.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks,
Jim

Re: Harken Big Boat Traveler

You can definitely cut it. The end cars just slide on and bolt down. I had to cut it when I first installed it.

But you have the I-beam track now, which I what I think is required for an unsupported track. I don't think you can use the flat track like that. It would need something to sit on. It doesn't need to bolted at every point, but it might bend unsupported.

If you still wanted the three cars I would split them from the track. Track is not very expensive (?) and you can just buy the correct track for your boat. Or maybe reuse your current track?

But also, would the end cars fit? There doesn't seem to much room at the ends of the tracks on your boat.

Good point about the end cars! I hadn't considered that. The track may need to be raised or just use the existing track as the support for a flat track. Is your track through bolted at various points or does it have a 'sliding bolt track' at the bottom as a means of fastening? Can you envision your track being fastened to the existing track?

Re: Harken Big Boat Traveler

Also, the current track will probably not be the right size for your cars. I have had discussion with some techs on the subject. Do you know the part number of your cars so I can check if track is still available? Lewmar no longer makes cars or end stops that fit on my track... This is becoming quite a lesson on the pitfalls of accidental jibes!

MEMELET - I am restoring a Jeanneau 375 - I need to replace the traveler system It will mount on flat deck in front of cabin hatch. I believe your system will work. Do you still have the track that you cut when installing? Has it been used on boat? Will you consider a price of $500 including shipping to GA?

Thanks
Bob

I don't know the part numbers. But any 1.25 inch track will fit.

As you can see, someone else just posted with interest, and I will have to seel the first person who is willing to pay.

What do you mean by the "track that you cut"? I have the track shown in the picture; that is 68". It was used on my Passport 42.

Hmm, yes I would accept $500 where I pay shipping to GA.

Re: Harken Big Boat Traveler

Sorry - I thought from you comments to other guy you had cut tract when you installed on your boat. I could use tract about 13 inches longer.

If I purchase, how would payment be made?
