Garmin set - 18"HD radar with 740 GPS and all wiring.

This has never been used, It is out of the box and I did activate the GPS with Garmin. The data base is up to date. Purchased from West Marine for $1850.00. Yours for $1000.00 plus shipping.

Which Garmin Radar is this? Regular, HD, or xHD?

Re: Garmin set - 18"HD radar with 740 GPS and all wiring.

I recently bought the Garmin GPS-MAP 840s chart plotter. Would this be compatible with your 18" HD radar?
I'm not clear what your mean by 740 GPS...is that a GPS stand alone receiver? At West Marine website, the 740 seems to indicate a chart plotter, but it is termed 740s.
So a more complete set of descriptors/numbers would be helpful.
I am interested in a radar compatible with my plotter.
Thanks,
Kevin

Re: Garmin set - 18"HD radar with 740 GPS and all wiring.

Last boat I had, I had a 740S and that Garmin HD Radar.
The S in the 740 means it has a built in sounder, you need a transducer of course.
The Radar plugs into and displays and is controlled by the 740 plotter, they are a pair and work really well together in my opinion.

I was really impressed with my 740S and Radar. I now have a B&G Zeus and 4G Radar, and to be truthful I think the Garmin was just as good, definitely easier to use, but I think Garmin may no longer support the 740, a quick call could easily find out.

Thanks for that endorsement.
And following up on a64pilot suggestions, I put in calls to West and Garmin.
I would consequently like to offer to purchase your unit.
Will await your reply.
Again, I appreciate the heads up on this opportunity.

Re: Garmin set - 18"HD radar with 740 GPS and all wiring.

second the recommendation. I have the same unit on my boat -it has been flawless over ~5000nm and three seasons. I much prefer it in fact to the raymarine on my friends boat, the Standard horizon on my neighbor's boat; and even the dual Furuno units used on the Nordhavn I run occasionally. The big screens on the Furuno are nice, but their menu system is no where near as intuitive as the Garmin. Same for the RM. I know Garmin is considered more consumer level stuff, but I have to say I've found it to be excellent value. Most pilots I know love their aviation stuff too. Of course, YMMV...

Sorry - it is a 740S with transducer. It is the HD 18" Radar. Thanks for asking.

Re: Garmin set - 18"HD radar with 740 GPS and all wiring.

An even more emphatic reason to reiterate my offer.
I've talked with Garmin and I can use a 740 chart plotter at the nav station wired through the NMEA backbone to the bridge deck Garmin 840.
Please let me know how to arrange payment, and I could possibly pick up your devices in person. I'm in St Augustine.
Thanks again.

Re: Garmin set - 18"HD radar with 740 GPS and all wiring.

If the other offers fall through I'll get in line. Or anyone wants the plotter but not the radome then I'll take the radome and/or the depth transducer.

Re: Garmin set - 18"HD radar with 740 GPS and all wiring.

On my last boat and just last weekend on my current boat I installed this transducer
Garmin P79 6 Pin Plastic Adjustable Shoot Thru-hull Transducer

Says Garmin in this link, but pretty sure it's Airmar, anyway just 5200 the housing to the inside of the hull if you have a solid hull no core, fill it with antifreeze and it works really, really well with no degradation that I could see.
Gives you a real fish finder / bottom machine, great for finding "wrecks" to dive etc., and no hole in the boat
