Free Sail Boat Project

This Sail boat came with a house that I recently purchased. It is currently in the water(floating) and there is no trailer. You remove the boat and you can have it.

That's all well and good, but where on this planet is this boat?

That looks like it could be a Southcoast.

Don't give it away. A $1 bill of sale makes the buyer reg. easier but if you didn't get one that probably makes no difference. Just thinking about relieving you of liability responsibility should someone taking it do damage to someone else's property/boat.

If you did get a title look into a charitable donation for a tax write-off.

I've done both.

Re: Free Sail Boat Project

Thank You for the heads up.

It seems that not having the mast or sail is a deal breaker, even for a free($1) boat.

I plan to give it a few more days then I will most likely drag this boat up on a utility trailer and figure out a way to dispose of it.

You sure can get a new mast and even used sails for the mast. This of course makes the list of things to buy longer. If at least the hull is in good shape, maybe there is someone someone nearby who really wants a boat, loves lots of hard work, has lots of time to rebuild the boat, and doesn't have enough money to buy an easier starting point. Try also the nearest yacht club, if you prefer finding a good home for the boat instead of simply disposing it. My guess is that this boat it is too much work for anyone nearby, but I'm very happy if you can find a new owner for the boat.

Re: Free Sail Boat Project

I have a proposal. Check how much it would cost to dispose the boat. Then pay a little bit less to iSaint to take the boat away.

Re: Free Sail Boat Project

I have no information, but an observation: it is probably worth what you are asking (I'd go for the $1), but if it has lead ballast, decent wood trim that can be re-purposed, or some parts it could have some value to someone. Your "wait a few days" plan is sound, especially if you augment by a Craigslist entry.
