Hi All, we're trying to sell our
boat,
Phantom . She's a CHOATE 40 – beautiful cruiser/racer
sloop built by Dencho
Marine (California) in 1982, imported to
Canada in 1990 and upgraded extensively since (major
refit 1997-2003). A superbe sailing platform, her flush
deck design makes getting around on
deck a breeze. Very good
hardware and hydraulics combined with a 60 inch
wheel in a comfortable
cockpit (not a
racing pit) make sailing her a joy. The sail inventory is not excessive but complete,
spinnaker gear included. Large
Barient 32 3-speed winches serve as primaries, while each checkstay and
halyard (4) has it's own S/T
winch. Additional winches serve the foreguy, pole
lift, and reef lines.
The
interior features a dinette to port, pilot berth to starboard, with a settee and
storage behind. Aft, behind a nav station and
storage cubby are 4 pipe berths. The
galley is central ahead of the
mast and full width of the
hull. A good, large
icebox,
propane range/oven and deep sink complement good storage in drawers and shelving. Forward of the
galley is the
head, hanging locker and large V-berth with storage and tankage under. A
Teak and Holly sole throughout complete the cosy
cabin with a
propane fireplace. A large forehatch provides light and access to the forward
cabin, and additional ventilation includes two smaller hatches midships.
A major
refit was undertaken in 1997. The Pathfinder
diesel engine was completely rebuilt in 2002-2003. This is a very good
engine with great
parts availability from either Pathfinder or any Volkswagen
parts supplier. A new Hurth/ZF
transmission was installed July 2009. She was hauled out, cleaned thoroughly and treated with 2 coats of new
bottom paint (Micron CSC) in May 2008. Recent
inspection by a diver confirmed the bottom is in good shape and zincs are 60%.
