Wildcat

Hello SurfNRG,

My wife loves the Wildcat. But we're in confusion about cats. We have owned a 30' Searay twin big blocks for 10 years and have just sold her. With the price of gas and more time on our hands we want to try the sailing mode. And a cat is the only way we would go. We are not open ocean boaters we spend most of our boating years on the westcoast of Canada in the Gulf Islands & San Juan Islands. Couple of questions for anyone who would like to give any imput.
Zero experience in sailing...easier to learn on a cat or monohaul?
With a cat cruising on the engines ( say 35' with 20 HP deisels )
approx fuel economy, GPH at cruise, approx KPH ?
Purchasing a cat in Florida , approx transport costs to Vancouver Canada?

Not many cats up here, and other than the moorage problem i don't understand why?

Open our eyes cat sailors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MANY IMPROVEMENTS TO BLADERUNNER

Yes, that was the original listing from over 2 1/2 years ago. I jumped on it quick cause it was a great deal - a lot of boat for the money. And I've added ALOT to the boat the past couple of years including:

Raymarine e80 Chartplotter with Navionics Platinum card (well over $3K), revamped the Raymarine Tri Data setup (new wind speed indicator, etc),
Flat Screen LCD TV that plays through the new Clarion stereo CD that's iPod ready with 4 speakers (it rocks!), additional refrigeration, did a lot with the engines including adding strainers (2), installed new water pumps (2 @ $300 a pop), new heads w/plumbing, canvas work, sail repairs, new rigging (T-900 main halyard, stay set for traveler, etc), new prop, new Awlcraft 2000 paint job on sides ($$$), all new battery bank (six 6 volt Trojan for house, 2 new 12 volt starting/one per engine), added new ground tackle including 44 lb Delta w/ new 3/8 HT chain and New England three strand, revamped windlass, 2 bottom jobs in the past two and a half years (latest in April 08) and on and on.

As she sits, she's ready to go cruising! We just got back from the Bahamas and she performed like a charm. Very comfortable with lots of room. For the money, she's a great deal for a Blue Water Cruising Catamaran. It'll be hard to find one under $200K with less wear and so well equipped. If you find one for less, you can do all the work and pay for all the additions yourself. This boat is for someone who's ready to enjoy sailing right away, live aboard in comfort or head out to the high seas and go cruising.

Hope I answered your question.

Happy Sails!

Kevin
S/V Bladerunner

P.S. I also replaced the Mast Head Light with all LED's. Also forgot to mention the new Magma "Catalina" grill (not the round type) that's awesome for grilling outside for a bunch of people.

BLADERUNNER IMPROVEMENTS Take 2

Almost forgot, we're also including a Yamaha 15 hp 2 stroke engine (new in 2006) and a 2002 Caribe 10CX hard bottom inflatable with the boat.

A BIG part of me doesn't want to sell the boat but since my wife needs to help out with her aging parents it's very hard for us to get away for long periods of time - which is why we originally bought the boat. We wanted to cruise and in a catamaran! But we also own a pretty tricked out RV that is great for taking short vacations or chasing hurricanes for work, etc.. It's like cruising on land. And we're able to get back fast if need be. My wife felt so guilty being away for the month of June while we cruised the Abacos. I'm sure we'll feel remorse once we sell but such is life.

Wow - If that boat were within 1,000 miles of here, you'd have money in hand. Nice boat.

OK all you couch sailors, get on it!

PS - Is the galley wench included - LOL...

Wife Optional..,

Hey, I'm only allowed to call my wife a galley winch! And if the price is right I may include her. But my wife says the new owner would have to be heading to the Caribbean. She's actually the one responsible for getting me into sailing. I was previously, and please forgive me, a power boater prior to meeting her. I quickly learned that it wasn't the destination but the journey to your destination that makes it all worthwhile. I have a lot to thank her for which means she'd be going for a pretty penny. But in all seriousness, we were both hoping to sail away for a couple years but it's just not the right time. Bladerunner is great sailing locally here on the ICW, lots of fun partying with friends, etc., but it's really meant to go cruising.

Sounds like a great camp but unfortunately we don't have any kids and are looking to sell the boat. Thanks for the inquiry though.

Have you read the bumfuzzle.com info on Charter Cats? They apparently had some problems with delaminating and are not terribly happy with Charter Cats. How has your experience been with the company and with your boat?
