It is under contract, and she says there are a few issues that have to be
over come. But, she is rightfully hopeful the deal will go through.

How about now, after the lightening strike?

I thought I saw bloged that the deal fell through and the new price was dropped to something like 165k. I guess it is still located in Panama. Tough place to sell.

I bought my boat after a lightning strike. It happens ....

Brought a quality boat with zero electronics within reach.

Tough break, file a claim?

Operation BABSAM. (Buy a boat, save a marriage) Although the boat has not been bought, I think I can say with some degree of confidence that the marriage has already been saved. We are SO relieved to be off the boat and on to something new. We've learned a lot about ourselves and how important it is to prioritize "us." And we KNOW how fortunate we are - even in the midst of our trials and tribulations (aka "first world problems") - so we haven't been throwing ourselves any Pity Parties.
Now I believe what often happens is the owners leave a boat for sale, it languishes, and one day sells.
Panama, Rio Dulce, Mexico.
Read about a lot of them over the years.

If I thought I could bring it back easily without worrying about the family obligations we have, I think it would be a boat we could enjoy.

Too bad about the timing and distance.

I do wonder why the offer fell through. Logistics or something wrong with the boat - it is 20 yrs old right?

Boatman - how much to bring it to West Central Florida?

Such a pity: I saw her a few weeks ago, after the lightning strike. Outside she's fine but I imagine, all electronics were fried.

I'd bring her back happily but couldn't do it until November as I'm bringing a Leopard 46 over from the Med to the caribbean at the moment.

Re: Catamaran: Cautionary Tale for Wannabe Cruisers

Okay, I promised to update...

Yes, the first deal fell through. The guy was from the US east coast - he made an offer and then BANG we got hit by lightning. We let his offer expire, but he seemed undeterred by the big news, made another offer, we accepted it.... But he didn't follow through - he kept SAYING he was going to Panama for survey and sea trial, but I think he got cold feet. Apparently he is "not very handy." Not the right guy for a lightning-struck boat.

Answering one of the comments above - we only had liability, so no insurance dollars are forth-coming, and we're not going to replace the electronics, although we did replace the inverter which was fried up real good.

A great deal for someone who is handy and wants to start by installing a fresh set of electronics. The autopilot is out so a delivery to the US would be tough until some electronic work is done.

So we'll see what happens in the next couple of months, and then, if she hasn't sold, we'll have to figure out what to do next.

In the meantime, we're on to new things and "in recovery" - recovering our sense of humor, although neither of us has been able to write one light-hearted word about the BOLT OF FIRE and the PUFF OF SMOKE. Anyway, the blog post with our latest is here: brief updates

Good opportunity for the right price really. Electronics change so quickly, even though I bet yours weren't that old.
