It looks like you folks have it sussed out correctly. The fees are paid quarterly. The rate is $720 per quarter. She's a 1998 three
cabin model. There are just 20 shares (the boat is
on the hard in the summer). The maintenance sum calculated by Rocketman is high by that factor.
The sum of the fees is a big chunk of change but it includes
insurance, turnaround fees, haulout and
bottom paint,
storage during the
hurricane season, profession management,
engine reserve,
sails, chain,
canvas etc. It's not
cheap keeping a boat in the
Caribbean. And that sum assures that we have a boat in good working order. The partnership is well run and we don't
cheap out. She does not look fifteen years old.
There were comments questioning value. Compare the cost of chartering for two weeks. I think the $3,000 per week figure is a bit low for December and it would not include the very expensive
insurance you must buy. Correct me if im wrong, but that is close to $100 a day - MANDITORY. You are getting a very nice boat for a very small fraction of the cost to charter for just one week, but instead you get two weeks. I think the value issue would be self evident to those in the habit of chartering.
The subject of replacing her with another boat has not come up, at least that I'm aware of. The price I'm asking is roughly equal to one-twentieth of the value of the boat, so that should not be a concern.
One other important point. This boat has a dive tank,
wind generator, a
kayak (new this week) and you can leave your snorkeling
gear aboard if you don't mind sharing. You don't get that with a charter boat.
Thanks for helping me flesh this out.
