Big Wooden Boat
built 1903 PROVIDENCE is 64ft. on deck and displaces 67 tons. I sailed her from Denmark to BC. back in 1978. She has undergone extensive rebuilding which is ongoing including a new mainmast (55'x13") spring of 2011. New booms and gaffs to come this spring. 1986 saw us off to Jamaica where we chartered for 2 years. Upon returning to BC in 1989 I took out the accomodations and put in an insulated/glassed fish hold and went salmon fishing till 2003 where upon I retired her when she turned 100 years old. I completed a NEW interior in 2004. I some what reluctlantly am offering someone else with more youth than I to continue managing and enjoy this fine ship. The asking price is $280,000 and am willing to consider trading down to a smaller vessel around 45ft. Thanks for viewing

Re: Big Wooden Boat
Wow, this looks and sounds like an awesome boat - I would love to see more photos. Do you have her listed elsewhere, with detailed specs?

Your photo gallery is a traditionalist's dream.
This is a stab in the dark, but does Marlin Sportster mean anything to you?

Re: Big Wooden Boat
No she is not a Baltic Trader they were built to carry cargo, my ship and many like her were built to fish, towing a trawl net off the stern quaters, hence the lower freeboard from midships aft. I was told by a Dane who owned a 72' Baltic that I was interested in buying back then until I hauled her out for my inspection. At any rate he said to me to look for a "HAI KUTTER" built before 1930 as they were built on sailing ship lines . PROVIDENCE has a long and gentle run underwater from just aft. of midships to the counter and as a result leaves little or no wake when making 9 knots wether under sail or power. Thanks for the interest in her.

Re: Big Wooden Boat
I am too old, dear friend, to even think to pick up a vessel like your beautiful mistress.
I fully understand that you will not part lightly from her.
I believe the right one will come along.
All the best .....

Re: Big Wooden Boat
What an extremely fine classic. A beautiful liveaboard and a ship you feel straight comfortable with. No, she is not a Baltic, I realised that later when I saw her sheerline.
