Autohelm Wheel Pilot

Hi,
I am outfitting my 38 foot Bruce Roberts and am looking for a good used Wheel Autopilot. Am planning on leaving Seattle in June and heading up the inside passage. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Re: Autohelm Wheel Pilot

The only wheel pilot that can handle your boat is the CPT autopilot. I've had mine for ten years and highly recommend it. Here's their website -

by the way, i'm assuming your boat weighs more than 16000lbs loaded for cruising.

Re: Autohelm Wheel Pilot

Thanks for the advice. Have looked at the CPT. It seems like the only one that will fit the bill. Just wondering what is out there and people have told me that you want to have a spare autopilot. How do you feel about the reliability of the CPT?

Re: Autohelm Wheel Pilot

I've had mine for ten years - no problems. There is a belt drive clutch that needs to be greased ocasionally but that's all the service it needs.

My boat is 37 feet and maybe 22000 lbs loaded for cruising. If you search the forums for CPT you will find many who like their ruggedness and simpicity.

And, the guy who owns the company, Jeff, is extremely helpful.
