I am pretty sure that it has lived its entire life inside its case. I really don't think it's ever been used, and if so, very lightly, certainly not by me.
It's a 1982 model, however, the general condition is nearly like new, in excellent condition.
I had it checked out at the Armchair Sailor's instrument shop, where they do these things, in
Seattle, in about 2005, and it went back in the box and into a
storage unit after that.
The
sextant box has a couple of scrapes on the outside, and the
varnish is original "patina." The inside shows like new.
Books include:
- Celestial Navigation By H.O. 249 by John Milligan
- Celestial Navigation Made Easy: Using a Pocket Calculator by Francois Meyrier
- The Complete Onboard Celestial Navigator - Everything but the Sextant - 2004 Edition - by George Bennett
- Celestial Navigation by Tom Cunliffe
- Sight Reduction Tables for Air Navigation - Latitudes 0-40 - by DMA
- Sight Reduction Tables for Selected Stars - Volume 1 - by DMA
Included is this package is the sextant, the original case, original paperwork and certificate of accuracy, the
celestial navigation instruction
manuals, sight reduction tables, the Davis artificial horizon, and the various accessories that live inside the case, that came with it originally, (lubricating
oil, things like that).
I am not sure if it is the "full-horizon" or the "half-horizon" model, and when I bought it at this
price in 2003, I didn't care to inquire, since it's a great
price whichever one it is.
But if you tell me how to tell the difference, I will look for you.
I costed the
books at Amazon.com from their used prices (independent sellers working through amazon) at over $150.
(I did not include the cost to ship these books to you from all the various used sellers. Conservatively that will run you from $20-$50.)
The condition of my books are from good (one book) to very good (the rest).
Here is a link to my craigslist add for the sextant, which includes photos.
I'm in
Hawaii, so if you need it shipped, I will package it up very nicely and figure out how much
shipping to your location will cost you, using the carrier of your choice.
Thank you.
