Re: Aluminum Mast Steps

I'd like to purchase some of these mast steps. As I'm new to this site, how do I contact you?

Re: Aluminum Mast Steps

These look very much like the ones I have on my masts, but mine are cast aluminum for better rigidity and less chance of bending causing fatigue cracks at the bends. However, if well mounted with monel or stainless rivets - and - you are not excessively weight challenged - these are a fantastic deal.
As to spacing, I suggest standing in front of a step ladder and raising a leg as high as possible but not too much to be uncomfortable and then measure the distance from the bottom of your foot on the ground to the one on the ladder.

Re: Aluminum Mast Steps

We put them on 18" apart and it's a comfortable climb. If you look at the pictures we posted of them installed you will see I am no lightweight (250) and I jumped on them with no bending or give occurring. They were designed by my father in law who is an awsome tool and die maker who knows his stuff! they are 60/63 T-52 Aluminum and are 3/16ths thick. It's a bendable alum. that is made not to break or stress crack.Interesting fact:Zach Sunderland (1st. youngest sailor to circumnavigate) helped us install them and actually was our first customer! You can contact us at (775) 750-2964 Duane

Would that not suggest a coating in some sort of dielectric paste or Tef-Gel, etc. when you rivet them in?

Re: Aluminum Mast Steps

I would shoot CherryMax rivets. They are still an aluminum shell, but with a locked steel pin. Only rivet that can be substituted for a solid strength wise. Only Monels I have shot were all solids and they are very difficult to shoot and work harden easily, didn't know there were Monel blind rivets
