47' William Garden Pilot House Cutter

On a working holiday in Australia, we are being tempted by another boat. Though we love Born Free dearly after sailing her from Washington to Mexico we are putting her on the market.

"Born Free" was built in Snohomish Washington in 1969 and is currently sitting in a Marina in La Paz, MX. Constructed of inch and a half Alaskan cedar over steamed oak frames, she was sturdily built for cruising Alaskan waters. As she sits now, she is ready for cruising. For a quick sale we are prepared to let her go for $28,000 as is. This price is negotiable by foregoing some onboard extras (i.e. Stainless dingy davits, 185W solar panel, Honda 2000i generator, Achilles Inflatable fiberglass bottom dingy, 15 hp Yamaha 2 stroke, Lowrance HDS 5, Simrad AP 24 auto pilot (not installed), SEA ssb (also not installed).

The boat can be sailed comfortably as is. All electrical systems, including a 12V Dometic drawer fridge run efficiently using the solar panel without need for extra charging. Pro-furl roller furling, self tacking jib, Lofrans Tigres electric windlass, new 250' G4 5/16" chain, 3-45 lb anchors, spinnaker and whisker poles, good cruising sails, lots of spares and tools. Perkins 6.354 provides a 6 knot cruising speed at 1000 RPM burning less than one gallon per hour. 200+ gallon fuel tank, 150+ gallon water tank">fresh water tank, hot pressurized water.

We would be happy to arrange a personal handover in Mexico or can discuss a possible delivery.

We know how much all of you love your photos so we will post more tonight.

Here's a few more photos. Apologies to and for the people in the pics but we don't have any current interior photos. All of these photos were taken in 2012. The last haul out was in May where we did our annual anti-foul application.

She's beautiful. And that's a lot of boat for not a lot of money.

How's the framing and planking? Any soft spots? Has she ever had a major overhaul -- replanking, etc.?

I'm not really in the market for a new boat at the moment, but I do get awfully curious sometimes, and start to dream about raiding the kids' college funds. . . . I'm sure others would love to hear more about her.

While I'm asking nosy questions . . . any leaks from that lovely laid deck?

And what's her draft?

Oh dear . . . I'm beginning to worry about my kids ever going to college. . . .
