Thanks for your interests Melvin, but at this time we would not accept $5,000. There are just too few Joshua's around the world these days and we are not in a hurry to sell her at this time.

These are absolutely one of the most beautiful and seaworthiness hulls ever build.
Wished I had the time and the money. Do you have some more pics of the repairs to be done on the hull.

Geeez!...I can't believe you actually said something like that. A little insensitive.

What a ripper!,
Im presently guardian of a Joshua by Vennekens and am try to refit to an extent.
Sailed to Australia from France by an Italian navigator.
I made some repairs including hull welding before organising assistance to sail to South Australia.
skipper for Australian leg was one-over by the sailing characteristic.

Do you have a rough idea of what needs to be done to this boat to get it cruise-worthy? I assume its more than just painting the hull?

Thanks for your interest. We were away for the holiday so just now catching up with posts. We are selling her because we have been dragging our feet at getting estimates to have her ready to sell so that is why we don't have any thing exact and so much depends upon whether you do the work yourself or have a yard do it. Full time jobs for both of us make it hard to coordinate the work. It's much easier to be motivated to work on her before you sell her instead of after we have finished our sailing. If we had time to put together the list and coordinate the work we'd be doing it ourselves. That is why we respectfully request that interested persons come visit her and see for yourself. We have one very interested party at the moment that is putting together his estimate after a visit. At this time the $25,000 or best (reasonable) offer still stands, but we do not have a deadline for when we have to sell her. We have discovered that it is expensive to move her too far from the Gulf Coast of Alabama.

Thanks for your interest. yes, its much more than painting the hull. Working on some detailed lists in case we decide to do the work ourselves, but we are selling her because (other than being through with sailing) we don't have the time with full time jobs now, but in general:
Sandblast exterior and paint (inside still look good in most places)
Some hull repair spots (two on either side of bow are about 12" diameter, and about a dozen other misc. spots around fasteners where water pooled)
One yard told us about $10,000 to $12,000 for the steel repair, blast and paint.
New Electric since its been sitting.
Plumbing checked.
Back cabin needs new wood work since it was wood laminate unless the painted bare steel is acceptable (main cabin is mostly solid mahogony and teak)
One of the 7 berths needs plywood repair due to a water leak.
New stanchions needed since rusted through in spots.
May need one new hatch over galley area.
Sails (about 10 including one new storm never used) and rigging all in good shape and should not need any work.
Diesel engine check, but it was in great shape when we last used her.
Would you want to have her shipped some where? If so where? Would love to show her to you!

Re: 40' Steel Ketch, Joshua Design, Gulf Coast
I loved 'The Long Way' and have Joshua on my screen lock on my phone. Thanks for sharing the pictures with us, I'd love to see more and see the boat. I also work full time, and would become living proof of BadSantas take...I couldn't afford to have the boat repaired, I wouldn't be able to finish it myself even though I'd try, and I'd lose a lot of prime sailing time from the prime of my life.
But it's nice to dream and think of this as 'one that got away'! GOOD LUCK and FAIR WINDS!
