37 foot Truant Triad sloop; $49,900 USD

After 12 years of ownership, we are reluctantly offering our Truant Triad sloop for sale. She is located at the dock on Quadra Island, BC, where we live ashore. We are asking $49,900 in USD (currently 54K CAD), which is the most reasonable price we have ever seen for a Truant 37. We are initially selling her privately (i.e. no broker) to keep the price reasonable for both buyer and seller.

Pictures can be seen on flickr here;

Sassona is a proven offshore boat and was extensively refitted in 2006 prior to her second trip to Mexico. A reasonably complete description of the boat follows. Please feel free to send a message requesting more info or a phone number. Thanks!

Here is a picture of Sassona dockside at the St. Francis Yacht Club, San Francisco. She is a very pretty William Garden design. Click on this link for more pictures.

Hey Adam;
My wife is a better artist than me and she is doing a drawing for you. The drawing should be posted later today. The boat basically has 5 berths; the dinette (which is aft) makes into a large double, there is a large single settee berth midships on the starboard side and the queen size berth is in the private cabin on the port side, just ahead of the mast. We added a 6th small convertible berth with lee cloths, staggered just above the settee berth. Our youngest daughter used it for years but it is only suitable for a child or small person under about 5' or so. That berth is easily removed or re-installed. All of the berths are good sea berths, no V-berth in the bow, that is useless at sea.

Thanks from David!

Hey Adam;
Here is the drawing. The cabin is entered by stairs built into the engine cover. The rest of the engine cover is part of the dinette table. The dinette is very roomy and will easily seat up to 7 for dinner. The convertible child's berth is not shown; it is staggered above the forward end of the settee and continues to the starboard forward locker. The owner's cabin does have a door (perhaps hard to see in the drawing) and there is a little standing room, in the cabin. All berths are god sea berths and there are lee cloths for the settee and child's berth. Please email me with any more questions.
Thanks; David

We have found the layout very comfortable for passages as well as extended times at anchor or moored. If you have ever tried to sleep in a bow v-berth in a sea, you'll soon learn how nasty that experience can be.
As listed on the original brochure; the main is 300 square feet (2 reef points) and the genoa is 400 square feet.
Thanks!

We'll endeavour to get you more pix. Perhaps even put together a you-tube video! I can tell you the cockpit is compact; exactly what you want on an offshore boat. A large cockpit represents a significant liability, in the event that you are pooped or take some green water. The salon is very roomy and spacious, for a 37 foot boat.

did you find yourself running it as a cutter rig often while gunkholing on the inside?

The cutter rig stay is easily removed and we leave it off for inside sailing, because it is a bit of a nuisance when tacking. But it is nice to have for off-shore sailing and/or passages. With this set-up, we have the best of both worlds.

Hi Steve;
Thanks for that! Bill Garden definitely knew how to design pretty boats, that were functional as well.

Hi Adam;
Sorry for the delay. We spent some time to get some decent pictures of the main salon and added them to Flickr; you can find them here;
Flickr: svsassona56's Photostream

I had trouble uploading a couple of the pictures to Flickr, so I have attached them here. The first one is looking down on the dinette, from the companionway. The second shot is looking at the starboard settee, from the galley. We have been having a lot of drizzly weather so we did not take any exterior pictures. If you want to talk about the boat, pm me your phone number and I'll call you from google phone and we can chat.
Cheers;
David.
