33' + catamaran

Is a 33' or bigger catamaran possibly to purchase for under $20,000? I am looking for one my wife and I want to make a move to a liveaboard. I am very handy and dont mind refinishing interior or certain mechanics but I would like it to be sailable. Any thoughts on my criteria?

Thanks, Tyler

It will be very hard to find. I have been looking for two years.
You would prob. need to double that money and you might find one.

Re: 33' + catamaran

Tyler,

The only thing in that price range will be an Iroquois Catamaran (or possibly a Catalac). It is either 30 or 32 foot and can be bought for around your price point. Go to Yacht World and do a search. There are a few on there now. It has its pluses and minuses. Biggest minus is only 4'6" headroom in Cabin, 6'0 in hulls. But then again you won't likely find another catamaran at that price point that is worth fixing.

Re: 33' + catamaran-Prout 35 Snowgoose

While we will be at a bit more than $20,000, we are thinking to put our Prout 34/35 Snowgoose up for sail once we return to NC from our wonderful cruise in the Bahamas. I almost bought an Iroquois before the Prout but it really is quite small but will sail faster (if you can keep the weight down). Be careful to check for balsa rot in the cabin roof. Having been living on our boat for more than 1/2 year now, I could not seeing living on something smaller. PM me if you have any interest.

Re: 33' + catamaran

I am flirting with idea of selling my 9M catalac (30'). And could probably be talked into it. Looking for a little more than $2OK though. Pretty much refurbished in 2008/09 (sails, rigging, solar, head....) twin yanmar diesels 2GM20's with lots of hours remaining. If want to discuss please email me.

Re: 33' + catamaran

Lets see, one post "a bit more than $20,000" and another "a little more than $20K" Hmmm, not sure what that means. Looks like that "under $20,000" budget ain't gonna cut it. Did you check out the Iroquois? I agree with Sailorman Ed, may not be suitable for a live aboard, although I know a couple in San Francisco "living aboard". Here is their blog:

I guess you will have to comprimise somewhere. Good Luck!
