2 cylinder volvo rebuilt

I know there is always someone looking for small Volvo parts and pieces. Here is an ad on Craigs list Space Coast, Fl that may help you. I have no knowledge of the engine only that it is listed for sale as rebuilt with trans. Take a look if you might need a rebuilt 2 cylinder Volvo.

Re: 2 cylinder volvo rebuilt

I am surprised that it doesnt state the model, or H.P. in the add? It appears to be the 10 H.P. Volvo MD6A. I just bought an MD6B to get parts, and I have the manuals sitting in front of me, so I took a good look at the photos. If you have been told any other model, you might want to verify it with whoever rebuilt it. So many of the old Volvos look similar that it is easy to make a mistake identifying one without a clear data plate. Best of Luck. ______Grant.

Re: 2 cylinder volvo rebuilt

My offer is contingent on it being an MD7.

He has a pick of the name plate but it's out of focus.

I haven't heard back yet.

Re: 2 cylinder volvo rebuilt

The photos show a starter generator, which is typical of the Md6A. The Md6B came with a conventional starter, and an alternator. The Md7A came with the regular starter, and alternator. I just googled MD7, and all that I saw had the conventional starter and alternator. There is a 34% increase in HP between the MD6, and the MD7A. I am not an expert, and there may be an MD7 with the old style starter generator, but I cant seem to locate it on the internet.( Internet accuracy)???? The data plate is just below the head on the front side of the block.. My best guess is that you are looking at a 10 HP motor, not a 13.4 HP motor. Verify, verify. _______Grant.

Re: 2 cylinder volvo rebuilt

I just went back and looked at the photos again, and the blurry one is of the injection pump, not the engine data plate. As was stated earlier, receipts of the rebuild will give you the part numbers that you can verify. It is easy to not know what you have , if you have not been involved in the rebuild yourself. Just my 2 cents worth. ______Grant.

Re: 2 cylinder volvo rebuilt

Seems awfully high for an md7 (having had one). I think the fresh paint may be deceptive. Check the compression before you make a deal.

Re: 2 cylinder volvo rebuilt

Yes, you may well be right about it being a 6.

And I did ask for rebuild info including compression test results.

Still no response.

I have an MD7 in my 33'er. This would be a spare. So I'm not in immediate need.

The damn things seem to be getting rare and expensive. But still a lot cheaper and easier to replace in kind.

Re: 2 cylinder volvo rebuilt

Hi - There is a Volvo MD-7A with transmission at "Pickers", near Oriental, NC. 21700 Hwy 55. 252-249-0725

They are asking $325 for engine & trans. It is sitting on a pallet under a cover outdoors.

I looked at it and all the parts are there, but it would probably need a rebuild. I couldn't get the distick out, so don't know engine oil condition. I did remove the valve cover cap and the rocker arms, springs, valves, etc look good - NO rust.

The de-compression lever moved, but I didn't try and turn the engine over by hand.

I think you could get it for around $200-250 at the end of the day. They ask a lot for all their junk, but cash talks....

Might be worth a call.

Re: 2 cylinder volvo rebuilt

That is a hell of a deal, just for the parts. I just paid $500 for an MD6B (mostly complete) mainly for the transmission to put on my MD7A. I still think I got a deal, since the dealer wanted $2700 for a rebuilt Tranny. If I put a few hundred into mine, I am still ahead. Dealing with old equipment means you have to have deep pockets, or a pickers mentality. I dont have deep pockets. ______Grant.

Re: 2 cylinder volvo rebuilt

I Ickes up the engine from Pickers today. Won't have it home till tomorrow, then a while to assess. I figured there were $325 in spare parts, but he swears it was a runner when he took it out.

He now has a Gulf 32 foot (I think) pilot house sitting there. $14/15k. He has an engine for the boat, but it is out. Not sure if the price in lures the motor, I think so.

This looks to be a sister ship.

Re: 2 cylinder volvo rebuilt

Hi - Glad that worked out for you. I thought it was a pretty good deal and that it looked to be in basically OK condition.

Never hurts to earn some more karma points from a fellow cruiser!
