1987 37' Hunter Legend $9500

Hello All,
At Bay Hill Marina (Athens, Alabama)and the boat called the "Irish Mist" is up for sale for $9500 she has a 3.5KW generator and a 700AH battery bank. It needs cosmetic work on the interior but it is in sailing condition. If I didn't own my boat I'd buy it at this price. So if you know anyone who is handy and looking for a steal here is the number of the owners who live in Athens.

What about you Boatman that is quite a bit more living space and hull speed than your 21, and you are a mobile kind of guy. Should attract a # of people you would think.

The draft is a tad over 6 1/2 feet, if u walked through and could not find major issues then she is a good deal and should sail fairly well . A little much to pop over 4 a peek by plane. Maybe somebody on the forum in the area could look at it 4 u if you were interested.Price makes u think must be something wrong eh boatman.

Sound Hull, Keel, Sails and rig is all thats essential.... the rest are extras
a deeper draft than my Cherubini 37 but thats not a killer... will it sail as well is the question...
and the one above I posted belongs to a friend in St Martin who's since sailed it to the Med, Gambia and next stop was going to be Brazil...
tho' come to think of it I've not heard from them for a while....
Have to send an e-mail methinks... they're a damn nice couple...

The owner says It is a 4'9" draft but with genny and ac etc is right at 5'.
She is showing it today to a very prospective buyer.

Re: 1987 37' Hunter Legend $9500

I looked at this boat last Sun. It has been a live aboard for 7+yrs and a bit worn. It has been tied to the dock and not cranked for 2yrs. She could not crank the engine due to needing a fuel filter as of last Sun. She does not want to do a sea trial due to the possibility of some thing breaking during the trial and not being able to afford to fix it. The interior in in poor shape and needs lots of work(the sofa area needs gutting). The seemed to be a soft spot on the bow deck but not sure. I am kind of new to sailing and a knowledgable friend may go over this weekend and look at it if it does not sale. Is this a bargin??? I don't know!! I did ask before I drove 3 1/2hrs there (one way)IF there were any major problems, I was told about a few small ones. Once I got there BTW the engine can't crank now. She also would not hold the boat if I left cash. She wanted to sell a boat that could not crank or leave the dock, is that typical?? I am about 120 miles up the river and may try and buy it, IF it will run and is a good deal.

Well....a 37 ft from 1987 for $9500 - it's hard to have high expectations.

Re: 1987 37' Hunter Legend $9500

There are many unknowns like does the engine work or is it locked up? Is there any bad rot? How bad of condition is still a good deal? It is a hunter after all! There is a much nicer Tayana 37on ebay for 28K. 37 TAYANA SAILING YACHT - eBay (item 180634312270 end time Mar-09-11 13:59:25 PST)

Again, I am new to buying boats! I did not expect a new boat but the engine can not run. I have never bought a car that can not run or with out a test drive. My friend said I should pay for a survey and get it hauled out. Should I or is it just that good a deal???
Thanks!
Eric

Re: 1987 37' Hunter Legend $9500

If the engine has not been cranked for 2 years, it certainly needs more than a fuel filter to be cranked. And the cost of replacement or refit will be at least a few thousands... Probably there will be some other surprises and at the end the 9,500 will be doubled if not tripled. Look around there are a LOT of good boats for sale at this time.

Re: 1987 37' Hunter Legend $9500

If the engine would run and I could get it to my local marina with out much $ that would be great! In time I could afford a refit. If it will need major engine work to move it, I hope some one else enjoys it! I did like not love the boat overall. I look forward to other peoples input.
