1981 Catalina 30 Engine Controls

I am looking for 1981 Engine controls that came on the Catalina 30 MkI. I have a Universal 5411 which is why I need the side by side duel side mount controls. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Replace the antiquated dual stick controls with an idiot proof modern control like

Teleflex Morse - Single Lever Side Mount Sail Boat Engine Control, CH2

and everyone will be happier.

Will that work with a universal atomic 5411?

The 5411 has no shut off. In order to shut off the engine you have to go to idol then pull back on controls past idol to kill engine. Just don't see how that will work with the 5411. I would love to purchase a less expensive set of controls. Unless there is another way to kill the engine.

Are these on a pedestal or are they on the cockpit port side?

You could try Sailboat swap shop on Facebook or the C30 owners group there. I pulled a junk set of out of my boat and replaced them with a set found on the group.

Re: 1981 Catalina 30 Engine Controls

If you've got the two removable handles Morse Controls, they are NLA and almost impossible to find used. Looked for two years on every list I could think of and only had two turn up. Unfortunately they were sold instantly. Finally had to bite the bullet and go with a single handle control. There is a two handle control with fixed handles still available but it's right up there with platinum in cost.

As far as the shut off for the engine, it's probably a simple pull cable. Should be able to buy a pull cable with a knob that you can install anywhere convenient.

FWIW, Morse told me they quit making the removable two handled because the handles could be removed. For sailors that was whole reason for having these controls. Remove the handles when sailing and the sheets and lines didn't catch on them. Either law suit or some safety nazi in the gov't decided it was dangerous to be able to remove the handles and they quit making them. Another good product down the tubes because of trial lawyers or gummint regulation.
