1978 Tayana Ketch on eBay - No Reserve

Hi Folks,
I see that the person who had their ketch for sale has posted it again on Ebay, #260885480151. I guess it did not make the Reserve the last time. This time it has no reserve and when I last looked at it it was at $6100. It has a week still left to run.
For what I can see it is well equiped but worn. Has Monitor vane, solar panels, pumps, anchors and whatnot.
It's in Puerto Vallarta so it will be hard to run down and have a look at.
I had a 34ft version of this (Tayana) a few years ago and really liked it. They make a good cruising boat.
If I were 20 years younger. . . . .

If you were twenty years younger you'd probably not have the time to sail the doggone thing back to where you actually want it!

(that's *my* problem, I'd buy it otherwise...)

Re: 1978 Tayana Ketch on Ebay-No Reserve

20 years ago would have put me in about the same time as the Tayana's skipper when they started cruising offshore in this boat. At that time I was employed by a multinational company and could'nt really get sufficient time off to contemplate such a venture. . . but I sure dreamt about it!
Now, the clock is running a lot slower. . . I'm retired from working but not from dreaming! Our sailing is on a Hobie cat off the beach but there are times when the wind is right, the water is flat, the sun is warm. . .Ah Yes! It's nice to dream!
Been on North Sea deliveries. . . Off the west coast of Vancouver Island in seas and winds that were a little uncomfortable. . . Oh Well. . .Puerto Vallarta in a Tayana 37 wouldn't be too bad. . . . got to go, fist mate has just rung the dinner bell!!

Most of them at that age are pretty rough. Too much wood, usually not maintained. Almost every one I've seen was full of dry rot. Pics show deck issues. 8-10K?

I think the question here is not how old the boat is, but how old you are.

I am the third owner of a 1988-built custom boat (meaning never really finished) that ended up with me because the previous two owners aged out of sailing her.

As I just turned 50, I'd better shake a leg.

Red Barn,
It can be fun looking for your dream boat, just make sure you find the right one you can enjoy more, than you work on it....

Hey Red Barn,
That hobie cat will give you the thrills and keep the dream alive. And if you can handle a Hobie...

Nice boat. I like ketches and I like Tayanas. Did not know Tayanas were made ketches. All seen was sloop or cutter.

Hope she will get a new happy owner.

Good luck to the seller and to the buyer!

Any boat out there beats a couch here! Especially one that close to fish tacos!

As I recall hearing, there were only about 35 made out of a total run of 650+ - the vast majority being, like mine, cutters. Bob Perry has said on more than one occasion that he prefers the ketch rigged T36s and wonders why more weren't ordered that way.
