1.5L Pathfinder 50 - Diesel

Well, I bought a new head and put her back together, for those of you who know her.

Started her up today and still runs smooth w/o smoke, for the Seattle locals you can hear & see it run. I'll do a video tomorrow and post it on youtube for those out of town.

1980 1.5L Pathfinder 50 marine diesel with Hurth transmission HBW 10-3, ratio: fwd 2.8:1, rev 2.0:1. Motor has all new upper end work: head, timing belt, idler pulley and gaskets. Transmission was rebuilt 500 hours ago.

Comes with wetlift, full service manual (motor and trans), fairly new motor mounts and spare parts (see pictures). Starts right up, has high oil pressure, charging and water temp all OK. I'm tempted to buy another boat just to put'r in but get'n old and times a wasting, need to go sailing.

Asking US$2800.

Was this an engine you had in a boat? I'm looking at a KK38 with a 65hp. Pathfinder engine(2003), and just wondered if you liked the engines? I hear parts are pretty easy to get and they are easy to work on? any thoughts ?
Tnx

Re: 1.5L Pathfinder 50 - Diesel

Yeah, it came out of my old 40' racer IOR breed that I'm converting over to an cruiser/island hopper.

Motor parts are easy to get. I know where to get complete long blocks and the Exhaust Gas Heat Exchanger is a Bowman.

The motor ran great until I failed to notice the timing belt idler pulley was getting sick and threw a belt. I was going to repower anyway, it was just a year early. Other then that they run long and hard. Never failed to start and never smoked, except the first start up of the season but still kicked off in the first few RPM's.

I almost bought another but they boosted the HP, which I didn't need and I'm heading for the S. Pac. Japanese parts are a lot closer.

I didn't get the video today. Had to run up North all day. Maybe tomorrow!

Re: 1.5L Pathfinder 50 - Diesel

Finally did a video. It was about 25 minutes long but had to edit it down to 10 minutes so I could post it on youtube.
At first start up I should have opened the throttle a bit and these are cold motors, but once they're warm they kick right off.
